Let me preface this by saying I do NOT have the legacy tattoo.

It should NEVER be added to the Mog Station. NEVER!

It was intended as something special given only to those who were there from the rocky start of the game and stuck it out. To then later sell it would nullify the entire reason it exists. Having that tattoo means something. If it were for sale all meaning would be lost. Yes many (if not most) of us missed out. That is how it should be. It was a gift and a thank you. Do not cheapen the gesture of it by selling it like any other bit of stuff in the shop.

Maybe make other tattoos available. Never that one.

Y'know, I've said before that I think it's a shame when there are things that are timed exclusives, never to be gotten again, and I do stand by that; it can be incredibly irritating to join a game and discover a thing you wanted was only available for a brief time three years earlier. At best, it's unfortunate; it's never fun for new players to see cool things they can never get because they were only available when they weren't even playing the game yet. At worst, when utilized with cash shops or loot boxes, it's downright predatory as it plays on FOMO to wear away at people's inhibitions to spend money.

So I do tend to think it's not a bad idea if a game says, for instance, "this PvP mount will be exclusive to this season for two years (or three years, or whatever), and then we may use it for another season to give newer players a chance to get it." And I actually really like that FFXIV puts seasonal event items into the cash shop when the next year's instance of that event rolls around; yeah, it's in the cash shop, but it's just an outright purchase -- not some loot box -- and provides a way that folks who might not have played during the Starlight Celebration in, say, 2019 aren't completely shut out of getting the seasonal goodies from that year (while also letting them have new in-game rewards each year for people who were playing then).

HOWEVER.

I firmly believe that the legacy stuff is the rare exception to this. FFXIV's history is so unique when it comes to the game being rebooted, I think it's reasonable that legacy players/characters who were around -- who stayed loyal to the game even when it was rocky, who kept those fires burning and, in a sense, ensured the game survived into this form that we play now -- do get a few unique things. Including that tattoo.

Full disclosure: while I am a 1.x player myself, I lost the password to my 1.x account prior to the ARR beta, so made this account fresh for ARR. (My email provider of the time went kerpoof; no access to that email address anymore, no password recovery.) And while I did actually recover the password to my old account in, like, early 2021, I have zero desire to now pay a second subscription and revive Sarina (my 1.x character) just to have a tattoo or any of the other perks. (Or get at whatever leftover Hourglass Biscuits she still has in her inventory. Look, it's dumb, but I still kind of miss the inn cookies, okay?)

So, sure, I could benefit directly if they sold the tattoo, 'cause I do wish this character had it.

None of that, however, changes my opinion here. The legacy perks are the exceeding rare exception to my overall "I really wish games wouldn't do limited-time items that are never available again" rule; they absolutely, categorically should not make those available again by any other means.

So you would discredit my entire RP character on the simple fact that I meta IRL did not know that the game existed a few years ago? That is quite extremely limiting. I watched a lot of cutscenes from 1.0 and read up on the past lore. As far as I care, my character was there. If it is more money SE wants, then let me retroactively pay for the time missed by buying it in the cash shop.

If we weren't there then the game wouldn't existed anymore today, you wouldn't also have your RP char or whatever.

But if you really want it you can do some google searches. On Twitter I see tons of screenshots with character full of modded tattoos.

I bought a collectore of 1.0 tried to play for 2 days and just went back to wow and never touched that game again until 2.0., those item were meant for people that have endure the massive pile of shit that was 1.0 period. Also this topic should have been archived or deleted, nothing good can come out of it.

Problem with the worlds first is that only 8 people would have it and then you would have tons of people coming at you with pitchforks because it's 2022 and everything and everyone needs to be inclusive and exclusivity may not be a thing anymore.

What I do care about is the tone of some of the legacy players here. I understand this is important to you but your reactions are also coming off as slightly toxic. Just feels like another form of elitism to me when all you really did to deserve the tattoo was start playing the game at a different time and have an existing character when the servers shut down (looking at it in a broad general sense). Feels a bit gross.

Not necessarily a comparison either perhaps (depends on your viewpoints of rarity) but I have Saint of the Firmament and it feels weird to just be like "Nah you don't deserve Saint because you weren't playing the game when I was and didnt suffer in the same way I did." Like...wha? XD

I don't agree with putting the tattoo and stuff on Mog, don't get me wrong. Just also don't agree with how high on a pedestal some put themselves because they signed up for a game first. Lol.

Personally I couldn't care less tbh. Wouldn't feel sad or happy it's on the mogstation or not... Or actually I would be a bit sad because I find too much stuff is getting on mogstation these days for a sub based MMO.

What I dislike in your tone though is 'all you really did', but you mustn't forget that without them the game wouldn't even exist today if it wasn't for the loyal fans who kept their faith back then. Considering how big the game is now I think that is pretty significant.

Also I specifically said "them" since I wasn't actively playing myself. So your 'all you really did' is totally fine directed to me since my contributions wouldn't have changed the fate of the game in any way what so ever.
