    The 8UC timeline forms a critical part of the timeline that sustains the Elpis time loop. If it didn't happen, we wouldn't have the time portal technology that takes us back to Elpis.

    Also, it's entirely in the realm of fanfic, but it's not impossible for an alternate resolution to the problem to be found. For now, their world is still shielded by Zodiark and the elder Ascians likely still exist to keep Fandaniel's ambitions in check. Hydaelyn might recognise that the time loop is broken and can give humanity a more direct warning about Meteion when needed. Everything would play out differently.

    In short, if all paths lead to disaster except for one that creates both a disaster timeline and a disaster-averted timeline, then that is still going to be the best outcome.
