The implication there is that we'll find things on the island we can use elsewhere, like other cosmetics for example...NOT needing the most difficult/expensive crafting in the game just to make another landmark. No it isn't. Just like either paying for crafted gear on the MB or making it yourself isn't "pretty ridiculous". At no point did they specify that nothing on the island was tied to the outside - quite the opposite as ArcaneCarbuncle pointed out.
Funny how none of you have addressed this.
It's gonna be a whole other ball game if we start getting into various interpretations of implications of translated statements
It's a well known fact in most online games today, cosmetic customization in multiple forms are locked behind a pay wall or some form of grind to get there. This is literally nothing new when you actually take a step back and examine it as a whole. This is honestly on the same level as spending millions of gil for the gold namazu mount, for example. They've done this type of exclusivity before, except this time theyre giving you the option of leveling A CRAFTER and taking 15 minutes of your time to learn how experts work to achieve it. Pay wall or grind, pick your poison.
This really isn't that unreasonable.
I also don't understand the fear behind experts. I swear some of ya'll make the biggest deal out of using your brain for a little.

Instead of calling it a mess, take it as an opportunity to learn how to make gil. *shrug*I can earn raiding gear through clearing normal mode and gathering tomes if I don't have the gil to buy from the market board or the ability to craft gear. Where's the in-IS way to earn these materials? Even being able to buy them for the IS currencies would be an improvement over this mess.
This would actually apply to the situation if you could grind for it in the sanctuary, but you can't. This situation is far closer to saying that high-level crafters should have to get several weekly raid tokens for a new crafting recipe, or buy it from raiders. See how ridiculous that sounds? That's because it is.
You mean like how the current endgame crafts require battle tomestones to make? This would actually apply to the situation if you could grind for it in the sanctuary, but you can't. Actually, there is a thing crafters can do that raiders can't in battle content. Repair their own gear mid instance. So there is some cross over between crafting/battle content. This would actually apply to the situation if you could grind for it in the sanctuary, but you can't. You mean the tomes that are given out for every bit of even casual content, including joining a hunt train? How is that in any way equivalent to requiring a pentamelded crafter and expert crafts?
