Mostly Island Sanctuary will not connect to the rest of the game's systems eg being able to get tokens to exchange for items outside the island, but when you "explore to the limit" you will find some elements that connect to the outside world.

You're going to have a very long wait if you think better gear is the solution.

Most don't understand just how difficult these recipes are even with current BiS pentamelding. There's very heavy RNG so you can't just macro them like people are doing with the recipes for the 610 gear. There are no HQ materials to make them easier. Failure rates are high. Shadowbringers Expert recipes were very forgiving in comparison.

If you want the fountain sooner not later but can't make the items yourself and don't want to pay full marketboard prices, look at the Maker's Signature on the parts already on the marketboard. Those are crafters that have proven they're able to get at least occasional success. Maybe they'll work out a deal with you, maybe not. It's probably still going to end up costing you more than you want to pay.

The thing is, is that Yoshi P. stated that the island content was specific to the island, to come out and have expertise crafts, not only to have to get to rank 9/10 to the Island, complete the side quest, have every building to rank 3, and have all 4 land marks already built. The time/effort for the reward is lack luster. There are different ways to get people into crafting rather than lying to the people's faces.

Edit- The crafting recipe's are lvl 90 Expertise Craft- there is no macro for it as it requires pentameld gear and even if there was a macro it would still have a liability of failure. Lvl 90 Penta meld crafting gear is already expensive in its own so if we add the cost onto that. You are probably looking to spend close to 20 million pending the server for the Water Odder Otter Fountain for the stronghold.

I think people misunderstood what YoshiP was trying to say. He never said it was 100% isolated from the rest of the game. He said that Island Sanctuary would have no impact on progress you made in other content in the game.

Which it doesn't. Not having a Sanctuary does not stop you from doing anything else in the game. All you miss out on is a few vanity items.
Not having the Water Otter Fountain doesn't cause you to miss on any other Island Sanctuary content or achievements.

If people want to give up on Island Sanctuary just because they can't make the fountain parts themselves and don't want to spend several million gil to get it, then they were never actually interested in Island Sanctuary as content. They were just hoping to get an easy prestige item to brag about.

Because if we can have multiple, I'll have a hard time choosing between selling my extra parts or using them to make more fountains for my island. They look so much better than the other landmarks.

Where is the lie? The content is specific to the island. This was not even sold as something to get people into crafting. The emphasis was on the fact that you don't need crafters or gatherers to progress. That it uses those jobs for an extra aesthetic item is a nice bonus, imo. With all the datamining and spoilers that float around it was a pleasant surprise as well.

The fountain doesn't even unlock until after hitting rank 10 and finishing what can be considered the base game. It's a bonus item and somewhere down the road, it'll be a lot cheaper than it is right now. Another thought would be to get friendly with a crafter. Maybe they can help you out.

There is little else said regarding aesthetics outside IS after rank 10. Only the impression that there will be follow up content for the Island. Who's to say that the fountain doesn't play any part in progression further past rank 10?

The process of getting the fountain is trading in the materials for a blueprint. Beyond that, you need island materials to build it, including alyssum from the expeditions. There doesn't seem to be limit.
