I thought that island content was supposed to be completely seperate and not requiring DoH or DoL for the island. However if you get the island to rank 10 and complete the final mission as well as have everything upgraded to rank 3 and all the land marks posted you get the permit for the Water Odder Otter Fountain for the Land marks, however, it is locked behind expert crafts behind DoH outside of the Island. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it stated that DoH and DoL was not required for all island content. If you don't have it the cost of the materials needed for the permit range from 12 million to 15 million gil pending the server.

The fountain is not required to complete island sanctuary.

Its just a trophy.

What does this have to do with earlier statements regarding the island having no ties to the main game? This just makes me have even less interest in the island than I already do. Having to go through all that effort in maxing out your island just so you can have the privilege of shelling out millions of gil for the cherry on top.

It's just aesthetics. It's inconsequential. You don't have to build the fountain to achieve anything.

You're really hell bent on finding excuses to not like this. Why? That's a rhetorical question, but answer it for yourself anyway. People are enjoying this fun new feature and you're trying to drag others down into whatever is going on in your mind. It's sad. Something else must be going on in your life that we don't have to get into, but man... figure it out.

Isn't everything on the island just aesthetics? Aside from materia there's nothing that really impacts the base game. Minions, hair, glamour, titles, mounts... all aesthetics. They're the ONLY achievements the island has. That or the island has nothing to achieve at all aside from materia collection.

Also don't take someone not liking something other people enjoy as a personal attack and start insulting them. They're getting upset at a game. You're getting upset at and belittling a person. I'm sure you can understand one is way worse than the other.

I'm not taking it as a personal attack. I don't know how you read it that way. I'm trying to get them to see how trivial this is. My point is exactly the fact that it's all aesthetics. There's two ways to get a hold of that stuff in this game, work for it or spend gil on it.

What's sad is people like yourself laboring under the delusion that everyone should find the new browser game as awesome as you do. The only reason I'm doing it at all is to eventually get the stuff I want from the blue vendor. The actual "content" itself is a joke and I plan to spend as little time there as possible.

I never said anyone should find it awesome. Perhaps I noted that some people -do- enjoy it. It's not the same. The only kind of encouragement I've ever offered with regard to IS is to simply take it slow.

I -have- noted the extremes to which people dislike optional content. I frankly don't care where you spend your time. Do what you like, but when you come crying and wailing about lies that never came from devs or people named Dev, you can expect a response.

Well, I don't have the time to look up all the original statements on Island Sanctuary (and no one's linked to them), so I can say only what my vague impression was and is:

Island Sanctuary has no ties into the main game in the sense that nothing flows out of your island and into the main story and such. If I never unlock my island, I won't be missing out on some essential piece of story or high item level gear.

That aspects of the main game might tie into Island Sanctuary is not entirely unexpected. After all, letting your minions roam the island is exactly that.
