I have already come to accept they will most definitely look more humanoid than the males, because 'beast male, totally-not-a-human female' trope reigns supreme (I'd be ecstatic if proven wrong though), but what I'm curious now is how much more humanoid they will be - will they be more flat faced with slanted eyes and other feline features like that Kimahri fanart or that Bless race, or literally just taller Miqo'te to cut corners, since they know they'd be on the lower end on the popularity scale.

That's a very real possibility yeah, the more beast-like the more design problems it seems.

On the other hand though if they already know they'd be on the lower end of the popularity scale, which is something they've actually said don't they consider a top priority when designing races, there's no reason to not go all out with what they actually want to make. Provided they themselves don't want to follow the 'beast male, totally-not-a-human female' trope you mentioned.

They also said they went with the submissive tiny waifu Au Ra instead of the badass dragon lady concept art after considering what is popular with the player base, so I wouldn't take their more recent comments as assurance of anything. I certainly hope they don't repeat that mistake. Personally I would love something along the lines of that female Kimahri fanart.

I dont consider the Tiny adorable AuRa we have now over the Cool Dragon Ladies we didn get a Mistake.
Its unfortunate, but hey, the end result is very popular. Im not sure if AuRa and Viera tie or which one is more popular because I see quite alot of them next to the Miqote.

Now, if FemHroths get cute tiny Female counterparts....THAY would be a mistake.
Especially if they have human-ish faces. I still pray to the Tweleve, maybe next year is when the Next Expansion Hype and Promos should happen, and I hope with FemHroths reveal...we wont be kicked in the teeth and they wuss out on the Females.

Same here, I don't see the Au'ra we got as a failure or mistake. They give diversity and that is what matters, diversity = options; options = good.
Now, I don't personally like them and see them as too childlike for my taste, but hey, to each their own. The thing is that we have a lot of female flavours:
-Midlander = The normal person
-Highlander = The hyper-enthusiastic Jock
-Elezen = The well-behaved/regal person
-Lalafell = The small and young
-Miquo'te = The ditzy, forever happy girly girl
-Au'Ra = The small and soft anime waifu
-Roegadin = The muscular body-builder (totally not thirsting over them btw, you can't prove anything)
-Viera = The well-behaved supermodel
-Hrothgar should fill in the spot of the warrior. The warrior demands respect! And being a beast race that would be a pretty hard thing to screw up since their species already looks like a society of warriors. That is one thing that we are missing, that "Archetype" if you will.
So if they were to make them small and cute that would be a travesty and a complete disregard for what the fans of the race want. Although the mural and artwork, even if they are early concepts, both have 1 thing in common and that is their height, they are slightly shorter and less muscular than female Roe. So we can assume that that is their silhouette at least.

The Au Ra we got are just Miqo'te 2.0. Actual diversity would have been adding the badass version because even now your options are quite limited if you want to play a female race in FFXIV but don't want to be "cute."

To be clear I don't begrudge people who enjoy the current Au Ra, to each their own, but I also don't think the game needed yet another female race like that. The devs could add endless waifu races and they would all be very popular but that doesn't bring in people who would otherwise not play the game. It's the same reason Yoship said they added a beastial race "for the long-term health of FFXIV."
