Does anyone else think the new portrait system is janky?

I've forgotten but how do you change your portrait that is shown every time you start a crystalline conflict?

You go to the portrait section and create one from there and supposedly that portrait auto links to your current gear set and there's a button on the lower right that allows you to toggle on and off as Instance portrait. But it's currently bugged? As it keeps reverting back to default when you do CC at least that's what kept happening to me.
