Sorry, but no. It's an MMORPG with a monthly subscription. There should be things to do and updates constantly so that we don't run out of things to work on. Unreasonable? Not even remotely. Everquest 1&2, Lord of the Rings Online, ESO, and WoW all have things to be doing constantly. And while I don't like the current grind of WoW, I do play on a private WotLK server where it could take you years of playing every single day to get maxed out. But in FFXIV? Here's one new dungeon, one new raid, one new trial, and an island that is time-gated after about an hour or two of gameplay.

That isn't enough to last anyone more than a week. And that's a problem.
There are things to be doing daily, there are literally four expansions + a base game worth of content to do. We're getting new savage next week and then 6.25 in a month or two. This is a game where you're encouraged to do old content & work towards glamour, achievements, mounts, minions. If the complaint is simply there's not enough new content, well, this is just how they do content releases. I understand it can be frustrating but the game industry time gates everything now for the sake of money and an attempt to keep people playing the game. I dont see how its going to change.

I also understand you've been here for years but have you really done *everything* available? I have several friends who have been here since 1.0 and they still have work to do on several areas of the game.

Weird comparison to LOTRO in this instance as they don't get updates that often anymore...unless I'm mistaken their last one was at least three months ago with Yondershire.

Edit: They haven't had significant new content since April. New expansion was announced but no info on release date yet.

The island was fun for about 2 hours, top. Then it got absolutely boring and I gave up on it.

Gigantic timegating, getting 1 ressource at a time, no teleports anywhere on the island.

Yeah I agree. Island Sanctuary in its current state is very barebones and it's designed to time gate you, because it's not content that's suppose to hard grind. The more you're willing to be patient with it, the more you will tolerate. You get hard punished for wanting to hard grind the content, because there is almost nothing to do once you've done everything unless you want to grind nodes to make sure you have enough materials that...you never have to gather again for a good month or so. So after you're done grinding nodes, there's literally nothing to do. You just plan out your workshop ahead of time and passively earn cowries, which is going to be a slow process.

But even though I can accept it for what it is, it's still very barebones. We need way more incentive to just go back in and have our time spent in Island Sanctuary be more beneficial. Rewards have to be better too. Even customising your place has to have more options. This is just so barebones. If they're willing to sacrifice instance housing (even adding more housing districts in general), they really need to go hard on improving Island Sanctuary. It's fun...when you got stuff to do. But you're forced to get out and wait once you've done everything you needed to do. It's a nice destress mode, but I need more of it. But I'm not doing it right now because there's no need to overgather materials unless you want to max your rank, which gives you very little incentive to do.

Yes it is and since Shadowbringers they've been constantly aiming to get more widespread audience to earn more. So much content and all of it is in simple barebones level and why else story content doesn't require any functionality in our brain cells? Disheartening

There is a new pvp series to rank through with a lot of rewards, an extreme trial to farm 99 times for the mount and more content coming from other patches soon.

You don't have to spend a lot of time playing this game just to gear your character, but mounts are put as rewards for spending a lot of time. It strikes the right balance between not pressuring casual players to grind but allowing people to spend more time on the game if they want to.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

good lord the amount of whining i've seen here is just obscene and virtually all of it boils down to "i want content that panders to ME. i don't wanna do any of that other stuff." rinse and repeat.

Personally I don't really understand it, I was kind of expecting something along the lines of the mog garden in XI, and I guess I kind of got that? I'd wager I'm a fairly casual player mostly interested in the lore anymore, but it just feels like pointless timegated stuff in a place I don't have much attachment to since I can't really make it my own. 6.2 in general has felt very strange to me with the kind of lackluster MSQ and how rushed the ending to endwalker was. It just kind of leaves a weird feeling in my gut.
