Each of the double mounds of dirt you plant the seeds in and water is what I'm referred to as a crop. Those yield 5 items each even though they show at least twice that many plants growing.

5 per plantable/waterable plot, so by the first upgrade of your field you'll be able to plant 10, and get 50 per harvest, which seems to take roughly 2 days to grow?
honestly seems pretty reasonably sustainable, my only real qualm is how without knowing the weather in advance i can't really plan out whether i actually need to go check up on my plants often or not.
I was kind of hoping I could just dump all my money on the hair, but the initial earnings suck. So I have to take the plunge and dump 500 for the first clearing? I gathered my way to the next level so I have the granary building right now as well.Juuuust in case you may have missed the warnings, you may not want to jump right into buying the glam/minions/etc right away as those same points are used to expand your island in the few several levels.
I haven't done the math personally, but the cowrie grind could be potentially harder without those first couple of upgrades (which also help you bring in cowries..)

So, I use a produce based food to take the mood up to max for that, and then 6 hours latter, feed again with regular food before the mood shifts, and this lets me maintain top mood without spending produce.
Course this also means 24 apples per day to feed them twice to keep the mood from falling
crops are very low maintenance. the drying timer is very lenient and it always rains at some point during the day. I haven't touched my crops in at least 24 hours and they're still at 2/3.5 per plantable/waterable plot, so by the first upgrade of your field you'll be able to plant 10, and get 50 per harvest, which seems to take roughly 2 days to grow?

You can get 2,000/week doing challenge log, and several hundred per day via the workshops.
The panic “oh noes I can’t progress” is only a problem if you are in a rush to get it done.
Level 6 now, I should be able to power to level 7 today. At least I can sell crafts that will presumably be worth more with each level up. Really I should keep trying to get through these levels asap, but I need to take breaks inbetween. I think a second monitor or something to listen to like an audiobook or podcast is necessary.

Don't power through. Get your workshop running, line up those efficiency bonuses and make some currency. 7 unlocks more expansion options for the pasture and cropland, which each cost 1500. More space opens up as well.Level 6 now, I should be able to power to level 7 today. At least I can sell crafts that will presumably be worth more with each level up. Second monitor to watch something on the side.
Yeah, but I want the hair, and the pasture upgrade costs 1000, the cropland upgrade costs 1000, demolishing the rocks or whatever to get the next landmark (I presume) costs 1000. I'd be cleaned out!
