VIERA AND HROTHGAR COMPLAINT MEGATHREAD

Ok Ive tried all the hairstyles. They all look good on viera. It felt weird at first but I am happy. Using great lengths and playing on my island. Life is good. The hats they didnt add for us are not my flavour anyway so I am not too bothered. I ofc think they should be available but like I dont suffer about lack of MCH changes I dont suffer from lacking boring hats. Back to gathering: I got a treehouse to build!

It's definitely a relief for viera. I only hope the quality stays, or gets better in coming patches.

Now, hrothgar.. hrothgar... I mean at least they have ears?

I haven't seen anyone with a Hrothgar avatar post since before the patch but this update was pretty historic for including the first unlockable hairstyles ever simultaneously released on Hrothgar/Viera and every other race. While it's true that Hrothgar didn't get much in this patch I think this is still a light at the end of the tunnel for the future. The ear fix wasn't even particularly half-assed. They designed little fur pockets where the ears "poke" through so it looks a lot more natural. Honestly if the great Earpocalypse of 6.1 had never happened and they hadn't received so much criticism I'm skeptical the new ponytails would have been added to Hrothgar. Even though it wasn't a fun experience overall it yielded positive changes concerning how much more seriously Hrothgars' pitiful state as a race needed to be addressed.

In other news I am working through Island Sanctuary for the rewards but as expected it is a bit of a grind. I am having fun! If I end up being able to pick up one of the hairstyles eventually I will post pictures.

Nah, it was clear to me that once they started giving these races shared hair they would add new hairs to them at the same time as everyone else. Once you figure out that that's the path you want to take and how to make it work, it would make no sense to leave that undone til later. The Mog ponytail was proof enough of that.

A) I was referring to Hrothgar here, B) Hrothgar didn't get the Mog ponytail because it's gender locked to female, C) YoshiP said quite recently that adding hairstyles on Hrothgar would be a slower process due to the extra work they were going to do on the ears (after Earpocalypse). Viera is a whole other story and I agree with you but YoshiP had also implied since before Endwalker/male Viera launch that they had worked out the Viera hairstyle kinks regarding brand new hairstyles. He said nothing of the sort regarding Hrothgar and historically looking at Viera/Hrothgar as a packaged deal has been a mistake.

A) So was I, Hrothgar had shared hair before the Mog hair, and they clearly get the same shared hair as Viera
B) I know, the Hrothgar situation is really not as far removed from Viera as you think, seeing as they end up getting the same hairstyles, if only later.
C) If you got a cite for that, I'd like to see it. But regardless, it doesn't contradict anything I said. Hrothgar got their ears reworked into the shared hair AND the 2 new hairs ... because of this they are now 2 hair batches behind Viera instead of 1, as they didn't get the 2nd batch of hair yet. "Once you know which path to take and how to do it, it would make no sense to release new things without doing this method, just to give yourself more work to do later".

P.S- You can fill a tub with the rando stuff YP said before about both races head stuff. YP first said that Viera would get some small amount of shared hair that they felt would work on them and Hrothgar would only get unique heads waaay back before ShB came out. He then changes it to "only unique hair" for Viera not long after that statement, and kept saying that until we got the hair patch in EW. They didn't decide to make the genders until 6mts after ShB came out, it makes sense (to me, at least) that what they thought to do about the hair would be effected given the backlash and the decision to make their 2nd genders.
Simply put, regardless of if you want to call it a "packaged deal" or not, BOTH Hrothgar and Viera are seemingly getting most all the same shared hair as everyone else in batches. It would make no sense to release new hair that doesn't work for them only to go back and make them compatible 1 year later at this point, now that they're clearly going the shared hair route. I know people like being jaded and like crying "SmAlL InDy dEvS, RiTe?!" but logically, it wouldn't make any sense to exclude EITHER Hrothgar or Viera from new hair after they both started getting shared hair.
