Eldaena is right. It pulls you out of the synth after...150? Some incredibly reach-for-the-stars number. My gripe is succeeding a synth with a 5 level spread and failing it consistently with a 2 level spread. My carpenter's 22 and I often...OFTEN...fail Level 5 Leves. It just seems like the whole color-changing and Standard/Rapid/Careful ...blah blah blah... It's all entirely pointless. Well, it was entirely pointless until they started offering bonus XP for increased Quality. But the crafting system is still so completely random. Sometimes I find myself succeeding more on Red than on White over a period of time. An LS member called it a Placebo Effect and I was only seeing what I wanted to see to justify my complaints. Nope. I counted one day. 110/161 synths through Red were Neutral or Successful while only 49/114 White were Neutral or Successful. That means, after 100 synthesis attempts, I failed Red 51 times and failed white 65 times. The numbers seem only oddly close and I was not using any abilities other than Tender Touch and the level spread was -5.
You find when you start crunching numbers, the results of the math definitely point something either we're missing or SE screwed up. Unless they incorporated facing directions on certain days during certain whether under a certain moon phase after battling a certain monster, eating a certain food and committing a certain crime with a certain balloon animal stapled to your forehead with only 1/4" aluminum BOSCH staples...like they did in XI...and we just haven't realized it yet.

Oh, I forgot, moon phases could possibly effect synthesis as well. It was never confirmed or denied by Yoshida, but it is something.

You can overtrain in many things. Overtraining leads to exhaustion and overanalyzing, which in the end could be more detrimental in the long run. I think it only effects you if you don't stand up every now and then though. Ie: eat food every .5 hours and you should be fine.

moon phase has no effect on crafting, this has been confirmed in the past by developers around launch and nothing has been changed to it "yet"
