It could work if each piece gave you hundreds more MP, but you just need to look at mp costs to see why 40 mp on a piece is ineffective.
May also just be your server. Our LS has a few different sets of double melds and yes, the rare 3x melds. It's a PITA no doubt and cost some gil if u don't already have the materia but our LS like I'm sure others do, go do spirit bind PTs and our crafters make extra gear JUST FOR the materia so we don't have to buy it.
My LS gets together most Sundays around noon to make double/triple meld attempts for each other. So maybe it's rare on other servers or other LSes, but not mine.May also just be your server. Nah
Shields/Blocking needs to matter more
Defense while on PLD should factor more
Raise the def stats on PLD gear
If a mob hits for 4500 war should take 4k and the PLD should take 2k due to partial blk/higher def
I'm not disagreeing with you, I'd rather have def+ or HP+ or both on PLD. I'm just saying that it could work if it was done right, but it wasn't.
We do as well and mainly for the reasons of this post. Now not ALL the AF is crap some of it is rather useful or even great but there is as always some derp who can't balance with common sense it seems like.
let's see what changes they make to PLD on Monday
But radical chance, after getting geared up against 1 month of massive attacks from whiners. For example, I would appreciate it very much if materia would be completely U/U. You want it, you craft it. Would keep everyone from being geared up with double melts, U/U gear would be of worth again and really good gear would be a) reserved for the most committed players, b) keep the worth of gear for longer than just a few weeks and easier to balance, and b) boosted gear would be expensive enough to keep things interesting and make people think if they really *need* that stuff or if they rather stayed with the stuff they already own.
I am disappointed as well with this AF gear... Looking at dev post saying that AF would be better than single and/or double meld put everyone expecting to see something good. AF comes and what we see? Most of pieces arent even single meld and only a few pieces get close to double meld.
Looking at Darklight sets those, yes look a bit double meld and godly gear. Which makes AF gear useless even with with the enhancements. They need to AF gear be special and with good stats, plus giving full set bonus with extras to be equal to higher melds.
Can't be bothered quoting everything people have replied to me, but my example was an extreme about what can be done, I know the odds are very low getting 3 perfect melds and it would cost a fortune but it stands by the mentality people are starting to get which is why should I do dungeons/NMs/primals/anyonether content when I can farm/gather/craft alot and get gil to do meld these.
U/U gear right now isn't even filler gear while you get the gil/mats/SB for melds because you can just throw on a double meld and beat the U/U gear. I personally will use af, because it looks badass, and if I can do content in a bikini it doesnt matter really but we need to do something about this.
Lets take (readies flame shield) FFXI for example, they had crafted gear close to lower end endgame gear so when you level a job you get crafted gear, then come endgame you use it until you get the endgame gear (which could take a few months) this keeps crafters in demand and content useful, admitedly with the fact most people have all lvl 50s now it wouldnt work as well but I think thats what the devs need to go for.
