is it though? The location would be the biggest reason it's tied to the end of 6.0. It seems to be somewhere in the area of Thavnair, which we've only just discovered.
What sense would it make to be going through the story, just barely getting into Grand Companies and then "oh hey, here's a tropical island for you"?
nothing about the exposed sediments or fauna scream thavnair to me
I think it looks way more reminiscent of La Noscea and Hullbreaker Isle
About the location, I don't know if Yoshi said something about it I missed, but the landscape is absolutely La Noscea one, not something from this patch. Thavnair is pretty different imho.
Regardless though there will probably be a very much story related reason why we're given an island and that's probably EW related, as others said

Island is attached to a series of lore related story quests about why we go to the island, how we got it, and why the WoL want's to go there in the first place which is related to the events of 6.0. Once we get there, it then becomes disassociated with the story of the game but the events leading up to it still has lore to it's purpose.Yeah but most of that stuff is either storyline or level/ilvl based, a raid, a side-story etc etc. It makes sense that you can't do Bozja at L10 or do Stormblood content before Heavensward.
Island is meant to be almost divorced from the existing game systems; why is PVP available so much earlier, it is a similar system to Islands. Doesn't affect me but it is an odd gate.
It's not a gate keep to put it behind story. It's designed to be an Endgame content of sorts. Not a new player distraction that keeps new players from ever finishing their MSQ along with the other billion things they are already overwhelmed with.
Also looking at mammets I'd say 90% chance Old Sharlayan sent us there.
Yoshi mentioned it never snows, eliminating the area around Old Sharlayan.About the location, I don't know if Yoshi said something about it I missed, but the landscape is absolutely La Noscea one, not something from this patch. Thavnair is pretty different imho.

Thavnair is different and I did see things reminiscent of La Noscea, but I still think it might be elsewhere. We'll see.
Hot take here, but I don't see why this even really needs to have lore tied to it. It could have just been a cool new feature added to the game just because.
Have it unlock at 15, 30, or even 60 and give it a small quest chain and call it a day. Locking it behind EW and level 90 is ugh.
I wouldn't say the area screams Thavnair but... Lore wise, the lands of Thavnair are very fertile or at least we should be able to make the assumption that they are due to the fact that the rest of southern Ilsabard was very good for farming.
Island Sanctuary's are going to involve farming, if I remember right?

Buy Animal Crossing and enjoy your MSQ, guy.How disappointing. I had assumed that they would be available at, oh say, 30 or 50. So I could take my friends who are new to the game and show them my IS. Or as an alternative activity for my 2 dozen alts. But no. The IS are locked behind a tall tall ladder of level 90 and Endwalker.
All of my Alts are 50+ and about half have completed Heavenward. And my friend started more recently and of their half dozen alts they only have a couple beyond Heavensward and one at Endwalker. [x]
So if you want a Garden Simulator or to build a settlement, try another game where you can do that from the beginning I guess.
And do I hear that the Steps of Faith is going to be a solo duty? Hardly Epic. But I guess the warrior or light can take down a two story tall Vishap solo with no problems. But it's just not going to be as fun as it was with 7 other folks. My preference would have been to make it a 24 or 30 player event rather than a solo one.
I play another game where I just did an epic event with 50 or 60 other folks that was originally released in 2015. They didn't solo duty that epic event and despite the fact that there were no Flying Mounts in the game in 2015, the event was still fun and relevant for players today most with flying mounts and some just gliding like back in the day. It's done several times a day, as are the other large map wide events from that expansion.
Sure, we could have more glamour dresser slots or we could just make the dresser hold all the glamour in the game, for the whole account - all the alts could get any glamour seen by any alt. That would be another way to go. It's not a new idea.
New jobs appear just a rung or two below the End Game. Why is this a thing? And why do Alts have to climb that ladder to unlock those jobs too? The next new jobs unlocks at level 90? or 80?
How soon before we see that the ladder is just too high to put all the new content at the top and that it's not a service to new players to dumb down all the rungs along the way? Could we please find new ways to make previous [ I'm not saying old here] content relevant for all players rather than putting all relevant content at the end of a long long climb? Anybody else bored with running only level 50 four man dungeons for moogle tomes for moogle treasure events? I didn't even bother. Despite the cut scenes, an 8 player was more fun that these 4 player replacements. And they could have been 24 or 30 player just as easily. Why was that not a thing?
Yep. More than one subject here. But they all seem related somehow.
It was obvious that it would be Endwalker content.
After the MSQ, we are bored to death, it's a bit like those who complain that the New Game+ does not give Xp.
The saltiness over what's supposed to be the most chill part of the game is amazing. It was surprising for a hot second, then I remembered where I am.
In 2 weeks time, these people should be so much closer and maybe even up to that part of the story, but probably still so butthurt.
I mean, it's tied to a new journey.
