To be fair, BLU's damage calcs are different than other jobs'. If they just had normal weapons, they'd have the normal damage calculations too.

As far as aesthetics go, I can see wanting to progress your account using a class with the style you enjoy, but personally I am more into mechanical aesthetics. That is, for FFXIV, how does the gameplay express what this job is all about. In this case, forget Kaiten memes, I am bummed a little everytime I think about RDM's concept sliding perfectly into how healers perform in this game. So while I understand it, it does little for me, personally.
