Wouldn't surprise me if there already were map bots.
With the # of bots in other areas of the game that square enix ignore because a sub is a sub, i'm sure a few map bots won't make a difference.
We do have map bots before EW, now it seems they're not interested with the glam mats and probably aiming for bicolor voucher and pyros bunny...
Bunnies. They found bunnies to be easier gil and so mostly abandoned maps.
I'm out and about in the zones fairly often for hunts but I'm not seeing any groups that appear to be botting FATEs. There probably are some, but I'm sure the number botting in Eureka is going to be a lot higher.
I don't think we need the map bots though. If players are worries about prices on the mats from maps, there is a simple solution.
Run maps themselves.
Whenever I'm looking to make something that requires map mats I look at the MB and wince (buying Mariner cloth on Crystal is very painful right now). Then I look at the lengthy drop lists for the map they came from, throw up my hands, and go do something else. The chance of getting something salable is awful much less the one I actually need. I may as well go buy a RL lottery ticket. At least if I lose I know the proceeds are earmarked for worthy causes in my state.
The "problem" with "run them yourself" is that it takes too many map runs to actually get what you want. "Just sell what you got and buy what you wanted" works well enough when you get the super rares (assuming they sell) and need the not-so-rare but falls apart when flipped around.
IMO older map tiers should be moved towards a currency system. Run map, get map currency, go to vendor and buy what you want. There can still be some RNG involved (eg. number of tokens) that isn't so soul crushing.
