This problem you have is all on you. Housing demolition is hardly a secret.
You have no one to blame but yourself for not knowing about it.

Learn from it. Because if you make a similar mistake regarding the conditions of owning a real house (for example, not realizing that at least in some US states you can lose your house for non-payment of homeowners-association-imposed fines) you'll get no mercy from the courts.

Your suggestion of the demo timer being 6 months- a year would make everything worse then it already is now.

Honestly it should be longer.

Given that Yoshi P REPEATEDLY says its cool for players to unsybscribe and take breaks to play other games. They won't be punished when they come back...

This is a statement he makes rather frequently and totally contradicts the demo timer system. Because players will be punished if they unsub for a couple of months they'll lose there house. Or at least they would be if they turned the system on.

The timer is useless anyway. At this point t the game has spent more time without a demo timer running than it has with one. because they keep turning it off. It's been suspended 7 times that i could find 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

I'm all for removing houses from long term inactive players but honestly they need a system that works and a system that falls in line with Yoshi-P repeated comments but at least players can actually take breaks currently because the timers suspended anyway...

There is no other aspect in FFXIV that penalizes a player for taking a break.

When I took a break for a year, I came back to:
- Same exact levels/experience for all my jobs
- Same gear for all jobs
- Same mounts
- Same minions
- Same Orchestrion Rolls
- Same titles
- Same achievements
- No house

The solution isn't auto-demolition. The solution is to remove the need for auto-demolition in the first place.

On one hand, 45 days isn't a long time. On the other hand, our FC just got a new neighbor that, at least 2 weeks after buying their house, still has a bare house with no furniture inside and only an aetherite crystal on the outside. They did buy a workshop, so I guess there's that, but it otherwise looks pretty sad inside. If I ever seen any in the, I'd offer some extra furniture I've crafted. O.o

I've given this much thought.. At first I reacted selfish stating the demolish time should be even shorter.... But I know how people can burn out from a game so they should get at least a 3 to 6 month timer on their houses.
On that end I personally don't understand why SE doesn't just use better servers so they can host more houses/wards. Heck I've been subbed 7 years cuss for me housing is end game and I don't want to lose it knowing that on this game getting a big house is near impossible, like playing with the real lottery. I'm burned out and seriously need time off the game but I can't! I don't want to lose my house cuss the system doesn't give you much time.

So on that end they should make a system that keeps That allows you to select how long your timeout will be up to 6 months before taking your property away unless you happen to be too lazy to select an option on it xD

But in the end... I doubt the servers will be upgraded even further so making the timers even longer would "kill" housing entirely. HOWEVER I do agree that a new type of timer should be made to find a middle path for all.

A system that keeps your total sub time in mind, including the amount of times a day someone entered the house and calculate the demolish time on that.
I agree that the timer needs to be short for inactive dead owners who only play 1 day in the month or never again, forcing people to wait 45 days for something they should have in an instant.

So my suggestion would be the following:

There are too much 1-10 player FC's taking up housing so if less then 2 players log in for 15 days, demolish.
There are too much dead houses out there that look like they only spent 1 day decorating them or not at all. So if after 15 days of purchasing the house it still has less then 25% of the total item slots used = demolish (likely an FC seller)

Rest should get 65 or even 95 days!

Yes, ideally everyone who wants a house should be able to have one.

But that's not the system we have. With the system we have I think the inactivity time should be even shorter. For houses to sit around completely unused while thousands of people clamor for a house doesn't seem right.
