I will be the black sheep here and say that I haven't touched mage classes on my new character here since long before the last 2 patches. I finally got on my conj the other night to get it to 15 for PLD quest, and I have to say I had zero problems with the system as it is now. I play on a game pad and it was like being a mage in XI again a little bit. Stand still and take it in the face while you are trying to cast like a good mage lol
That being said I can see what Darkstar is saying though, the communication between client and server sucks ass on this current system and I definitly could see how this system would cause problems in a party setup as a healer. My experience with it so far has only been from level 1-15, so take what I am saying with a grain of salt.

A real mage adapts to any challenge

That action cannot be performed right now.
That action cannot be performed right now.
That action cannot be performed right now.
That action cannot be performed right now.
Whoosh!
(Ifrit) Dipped them in lava like gravy and bread. Oh heck that bed, oh heck that bed.

they can still kitte you even stand still and cast though, they dont need to run and cast for that ._.When PvP gets put in the game how easy would it be to hit your Ice spell and kite every melee class/job in the entire game running in a circle against a snared player and casting spells over and over. They would never catch you and you could just spam spells...how is that fair? It would be the "I WIN" button in PvP and a lot of PvE. Mages wreck right now as it stands.

Thank you for your on-topic reply. Obviously because I'm only lvl 14, I'm doing a lot of solo leves and running around alot chasing all the mobs who go find their friends - somewhat atypical. So I realize my experience is somewhat unique. But I like your point which I didn't see in too many of the rants. That the non-mage players need to adapt as well. They need to realize they can't be running all over the place now, but stand still if they want to be healed.Hello,
As a Mage (and someone who will ignore a lot of the 'ranting' so far), I'm glad you got to experience the other side of the curing world ^^; Normally it's nto a big issue, but it is when the tank (or targets) are insistent on running as much as possible without even thinking of stopping.
Such as in DH, or even XP parties, when the tank gets cured, then runs off (still at 50%) out of range and gets beaten up.
It's a pretty simple mechanic: You are hurt? You want to be cured? Let the mage cure you.
The system works fine if those involves are mindful of this limitation and act accordingly.
There is perhaps a legitimate concern for controller users (sorry, I am only on a keyboard and would never ever use a controller) with regard to being able to stop moving and cancelling spells. Am curious if it is at all possible for Controller Users to switch to Keyboard until at least PS3 support is completed?
I have a keyboard right in front of my and I might try macroing in /facetarget for the few spells I know just to see how it goes, but there's no way I'll completely go keyboard
I still think spell interruption as its implemented seems cobbled together and from what I'm reading that might be intentional. 2.0 can't come fast enough :P

I don't have too many issues, I get the odd spell that doesn't go off, but after playing many MMO's as a caster you get used to not moving and casting at the same time.
I don't think Yoshi should have implemented this until just before 2.0 and moving to the new servers though.
One thing I will say is Interruption from monster is way too high and needs to be toned down.

I have no problems as a BLM, though I do think insta cast spells, such as blizzara and thundara should be castable while moving.
And the CC reform is just horrendous. 2 sleeps then you're screwed for the next 3 minutes? thanks SE.
