Exactly. Especially since no one really knows yet what Islands is going to be like.
I think some people want something solely because they don't have it.
And there's always something they don't have, or some reason why what they do have isn't enough.
Gimme gimme gimme, without end.
Curious, but why do you think instanced housing is terrible? If your only experience has been what SE provides, I'd totally agree. They seem to have very inside-the-box thinking when it comes to their offerings: "Square rooms only, check! Basic placement options, check! No resizing of furnishings, check! Need to glitch and/or use mods to make things look cool? Check!"
Instanced housing on the other hand can be really expansive. Instances can give you enormous amounts of space to work with where you design every aspect of it. Wildstar (RIP) let you share a large island instance with 4 of your friends, each of you with your own plot to design. Other variations let you own multiple homes all over the world and they're built right into the various towns and outskirts which helps make things feel more lively and less isolated (unlike our empty wards...).

As for the above, the styles & games may not be your thing, but these should at least highlight the crazy amount of options and flexibility that can be provided by instanced housing.
In regards to XIV, I'd say the housing that we have now is pretty much instanced housing. :X Apartments are instanced, houses are in their own separate zone/instance, with the interiors going into yet another instance. At this point someone usually comes along to inform me that our housing isn't technically instanced and that it's something else, but honestly the effect is essentially the same. :P
A little outdoors balcony within an apartment itself where you can place some outdoors furnishings would be a nice addition I feel.
you are not going to dumb down my workshop into a stupid GC styled crapola ..... get a new idea.Bigger apartment sizes and housing related side activities moved elsewhere in the game. If someone wants to solo build and airships/subs alone let them with a workshop accessible by your Grand Company in a new rank. If someone just wants to crossbred some plants I see no reason the Island Sanctuary can't have a garden plot to allow access to that. Apartments having bigger sizes would also be a great gil sink for the game if they are prices closer to actual housing, albeit at a slightly cheaper amount.
sagacious
Allowing all FCs to access workshops, regardless of home ownership status, would be a massive improvement. It's not a big deal if the entrance were to be moved from a FC house to the GC halls.
People: Give us instanced housing so that every single player can access it as they wish! Maybe they'll even make it free of gil cost and definitely will get rid of disappointment people faced from lotteries or FCFS!
Some: No. Why? I hate fun.
Mortal Fist
Workshops are already dumbed down grindfests lmao. Reckon most of the workshop activity is one person grinding all the materials and then just putting out the boats every now and then. And I know because I'm the only person who interacts with the workshop in my FC.
