Honestly all FXIV needs, its to find a fitting style and STICK with it. As of right now(apart from some of the new tracks, which are great imo) it is a mishmash of styles and unfitting tracks... for obvious reasons mentioned above.

I would love to know if they plan on putting new music in 2.0

its gonna be a theme park MMO which means it will change style by theme of the area.

Excellent post.
FFXI music, and sound track IS MEMORABLE and It will always hold a special place in my heart.
As many of teh things that surprised me in 14, since the game was basically garbage at the launch, the music does NOT seem of the same caliber as 11.
Uldah´s theme sometimes reminds me of Batallia downs.. and it does not give me hte same feeling music in Sandoria, windurst or bastik did.
I do think this game does indeed need a revamp in music.
Another "cool" example in 11, was the "classic melody" that we heard over and over in teh Bard, Beatmaster , and other general quests.. that finally that little "tune" endedup being the AMAZING SONG at the Ending of COP... "Memora Dla stona ... Distant worlds"
I hope the music in this game picks up because it does really make a difference.

Well, here's to hoping we get a rep response as to whether or not they plan on adding entirely new music for existing zones in the 2.0 release.
I'd love to see elements taken from FFVI, VIII, XI, etc.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying high quality orchestrated pieces are bad, as they're absolutely beautiful when done tastefully. I just don't really get the Final Fantasy vibe with this more modernized form of music all over the place. I'm sure some will, but I think a lot don't.
Those who Fight Further
Some of us are used to those grungy synths, and as "oldschool" as they may seem, they can be modernized, and XI is a great example of that.
Though that isn't to say XIV is completely void of that nostalgic sound. For example, a portion of the U'ghamaro mines hits the nail right on the head. When I first heard it I thought it could have came right out of XI.
U'ghamaro Mines
We need more of that!

This is an epic sone indeed, would more like this.U'ghamaro Mines
We need more of that!
I really dont like a lot of XIV's original songs, I love all the new ones they've have added and I love Coerthas to bits, but the rest not so much. Especially the chocobo music, sick of it lol.

Where the hell are you getting J-rock? the OST has NOTHING that sounds similar to that. It's all progressive rock/metal of some sort. Which Uematsu has been doing since what? 2003? It's certainly nothing new. Lost Odyssey had it, The Black Mages was comprised of nothing but it, and XIV has a small handful of songs similar to it.
I liked the direction they went with the music for the most part. I'd like to see a different boat theme, though. That's really my only complaint.
You just blew my mind, it sounds like you have a good grasp of what makes great music in modern games.
Day and night-specific music would be amazing, as someone said Thanalan's music isn't too fitting during the day, you could have it so certain drum and instrument tracks are present during the daytime and disappear for a more mellow feeling at night.
With regards to weather, the purple haze in Mor Dhona could shift the music to sound even more sinister somehow.
