They should try layering player tendencies over the concept of difficulty; make the dungeon harder because you HAVE to wall-pull everything between each boss.

Mostly all of the above. Longevity depends on rewards for doing so.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
The key is to what degree. As someone who likewise played WoW from ~2005-2021, I can confidently and definitively say there was a HUGE difference in the degree to which that mentality existed in the pre-M+ era compared to the M+ era. You can think about any mentality you want, and in an MMO it will always be present "to some degree" by the simple variety of humanity. But the impact it has differs immensely depending on how prevalent it is.
Depends on whether or not you can pug it.
I can handle high-difficulty content but I don't like the commitment to a static group; makes what's supposed to be fun feel like a job.

Thats still very shortsighted. You can't just dismissed ALL of it because you have an issue with how the ToS deals with things. Not EVERYONE with these concerns are "professional toxic casuals". Generalizations aren't ever fair.Because the people who do it are professional toxic casuals who whine about the idea of anything more difficult than chewing gum in every single thread in the general forums, and pretend like FFXIV has some horrible widespread problem with evil stinky elitists ruining their chill zen no-expectations paradise while hypocritically shrieking about the mere existence of anyone who does difficult content, whether they interact with them or not. The difference is that the toxic "elitism" is explicitly punishable by the TOS, but toxic You Don't Pay My Sub And How Dare You Offer Me Advice behavior isn't, and I'll continue to yawn and dismiss the whining about "potential elitism" until that changes.
We learned just three months ago that these people piss and moan about things that don't even affect them on streams and get people temp bans for it. I don't care what spectre they're shaking at this week.
Xiv does have an elitism issue I just don't think it's widespread. But you have many who don't even like when tanks don't full pull because it's not optimal. You honestly think content like these new dungeons won't breed more of the same?

it's not sub-optimal, sub-optimal is messing up your rotation or not doing something correctly now and again. just straight up 1 packing in expert is a red flag for someone who doesn't understand the core mechanics of tanking. FFXIV is a social game and thus the community does have basic expectations for players to meet so you don't negatively impact other players' time and experience. it's not toxic or elitist to expect basic competency from your fellow player, especially at the endgame.
It will turn into 1 of 2 things.
1 a hard dps check to make a meta form because 4 man content is completely different and not balanced compared to 8 man content.
2 The sole pressure of a clear will fall completely on the healer of the group.
The content isn't even out yet but people are already complaining?
I'm casual myself but I don't go around debbie downering people for enjoying hard content.
Like, are u okay?
Life must be easy for some people to spend time and energy getting upset over smth like this.
Yikes.
P/S: There's no bad jobs, only bad players.
