Think you got it backwards there buddy.Skill: Choose the one equipment set you believe is adequated for the following battle and be punished in case your choice sucked; carry around multiple sets if you want to switch between fights
Lazyness: Carry a shitload of gear and just fire up a macro before anything.
Yep. Also I bet if it was never in XI and the devs suggested adding it here for the first time, it would receive a horrible reception from players as an obnoxiously stupid system that makes things needlessly complex.
All of the people who are saying no to gear swapping, were probably people who lacked even simple DT- sets on their jobs in FFXI. Gear swapping adds a new dynamic to the game that players can utilize to their advantage. Honestly, if you were even remotely decent in XI, gear swapping shouldn't have been a problem for you.

I felt it kept people staying around longer as well. It's easy for one to collect XXX set. But it could take ages to collect a great set up for Enhancing/Healing/MP recovery/MP regen/Regen/Enfeebling/Divine (I speak strickly healing for this example but I know BLMs had it crazy as well with all there zenith carrying around + staffs for HP drop for ring latent)

It's not that it was a problem for me to do, or that I didn't have the gear to do it in XI. The problem is that it's a shitty mechanic that causes more problems than it solves. Battles should be structured in such a way that you're forced to think about things other than what you are wearing to win.All of the people who are saying no to gear swapping, were probably people who lacked even simple DT- sets on their jobs in FFXI. Couldn't you just make one well rounded set that took as much time as it took to collect all the sets put together?^

A totally agree with this. I started playing this about a week and a half ago. I now have WAR50 with full AF. It seems like I am wearing everything that people that have been playing this game for a while now are wearing. I look through items and see like +enmity stuff, and think to myself that they would be great macro pieces for provoke etc, but then i quickly realize this game lacks that ability for players to adapt to different situations throughout a battle.^

I say no to it and my thf alone had a build for haste, ws, and evasion. My blm by itself nearly takes up all 80 slots of my inventory. If it weren't for the sachel, sack, and inventory all accessible at any time I'd have a hell of a time changing jobs. All of the people who are saying no to gear swapping, were probably people who lacked even simple DT- sets on their jobs in FFXI. Actually I never really got into XI. Can't really lump me in there lol. The idea is bad though, unless it is built as an intended game mechanic. It's not and according to the devs never will be.All of the people who are saying no to gear swapping, were probably people who lacked even simple DT- sets on their jobs in FFXI. It's another thing to do mid-battle sure but I wouldn't say it's necessarily a positive addition/mechanic. It existed and people learned to rely on it, so much so that it was never removed from the game. It's another crutch honestly. You can't maximize your potential through skill in gameplay so you do it through sheer numbers via gear. It's not something that we should rely on or ever be required to do.
How about we learn to pick a set of gear for a particular fight and stick with it through the entire fight? Play better with just that one set. Do what you can with what you have. Anyone with the gear can do a gearswap and produce results. I'd say the better players are the ones who can produce similar or better results without relying on the gearswaps.
