let start off with the basic and ask them to let us switch job and our gear change to that job first. What i saying is that when you change from pld to whm your gear change from pld to whm so you dont get nake.

The Class, Materia, Job, and Armory Systems have all created a very different environment from FFXI. Gear swapping, and especially weapon swapping in FFXIV wouldn't just be annoying but it could easily break the game. (remember, they are designing with PvP as well as PvE balance in mind)
The devs nixxed gear swapping in this game early on for a very good reasons. I should hope players would offer suggestions that facilitate and enhance Yoshi's vision for this game, rather than erode it with non-starters.

Indeed, this discussion was really over before it started since we already know what the devs think about it. GEAR SWAPPING MID-FIGHT SUCKS AND WON'T MAKE IT INTO THIS GAME.The Class, Materia, Job, and Armory Systems have all created a very different environment from FFXI. Gonna throw in my 2 cents here... I've stuck with this game since beta. Paid until July as of now. I have never overreacted to any of these type of XI ideas and said "it would make me quit", but for this one it actually would.
Looking back on XI so much of it was about gear hording. Spending countless hours in a dungeon with sadistically low drop rates so you could get a piece of gear that performed 1% better. And you did that for 15-16 item slots, for x many jobs... it became a huge time sink. If you didn't have that 1% better piece of gear you were basically considered gimp-- or at least passed up for those people who could commit 23 hours a day to HNM hunts and the like to get such type of gear. In other words, I feel that the ability to swap gear out for every ability basically led to an elitism factor which was really anti-fun... and, dare I say it, anti-casual. A MMORPG nowadays has to have content that caters to hardcores and casuals, and that's a simple statement of fact... gear swaps will give the game a fundamentally hardcore feel.
More than anything, I don't want to play an MMORPG that's all about gear whoring... but rather about having genuine fun through a variety of interesting and engaging content.

Game programing is at fault here, not the system itself.1. inventory space issues
2. characters flashing
Wut? A system in a game is indeed meant to be used, so yes, not using it is being gimp (or not playing at all. "I'm playing a FPS and I don't want to shoot!")3. it becomes the norm and people who don't want to do it are "gimped"
The good design choice is indeed to have things that have to be decided before battle, and things that can be changed during battle. Thanksfully, that's what already exist in every RPG (FFXI included. Stuff isn't the only thing determining your strategy)a good design choice would be to force players to think about the best gear for their style of play PRIOR to starting battle.
PS : I don't give a damn about having gear swap in FFXIV or not

That's a flimsy comparison. In an FPS the main means of interacting with the world is shooting. In an MMO the main means of interacting with the world is not gear swapping. The game is not designed around the use of such a system, if it was it would already be in place. However even though it would be "optional", most of the community would likely not feel this way.
Go back and play FFXI if you want this. It does not belong in this game and I vehemently hope it never plaques this game. It was a terrible thing you had to deal with in FFXI and noone should have to suffer that again. As the title implies, I'm curious to see everyone's opinion of the introduction of this. Gear Swapping macros were common in XI, and with the recent implementation of JSE in XIV, I think its only appropriate that something similar is allowed to be done.
imo Active/Passive Mode is a vestige of Tanaka's FFXIV, and should probably be done away with, but that's besides the point.
Some of these AF pieces are... lacking. However, they have some unique perks that are only needed from time to time (ie, Choral Shirt's enhanced ballads). Nothing is stopping us from putting our weapon away, and then switching, and then switching back, but it's just annoying to have to deal with that.
Thoughts?

hell NO to gear swaps.
that extra .000012 damage aint worth it.
too many equip set i will need to have on me
death from missing a cure from blinking
it's dumb really would you change your clothes in the middle of a fight?

While i don't want gear swaps back, if people notice it or not, gear swaps was the sole reason FFXI content lasted so long.
Untrue, the difficulty of obtaining gear was another factor. Needing to have multiple gear sets compounded the issue it's true but it wasn't the underlying reason why the content was played for years before becoming obsolete.
