Allowing Gear Change in Active Mode

Currently gear in this game (minus weapon base damage) gear really doesn't matter.

Yeah, come back and tell me that when you're doing 30 damage at level 50 with a level 1 sword. Gear affects you a lot more than it used to, and smart players know this.

Are you implying level 1 swords have the same base damage as level 50 weapons? WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?

"Only Base damage matters... the other stats don't"

and then someone responded sarcastically with:

"Thats not true... to prove it, use a level 1 weapon on your level 50 character and you'll be doing shit damage"

When that is only true because of the difference in base weapon damage which was the original persons point to beging with... Its kind of funny

Surprised no one quoted this yet, but they did answer this question nearly a year ago.

Spoke with Battle Master Matsui to get the lowdown on the whole gear swapping question that's got you all buzzin'. In regards to swapping gear while in battle, since changing certain gear while in battle will change your class in FFXIV, we're not planning to make it possible to swap gear in battle. This direction will not change in the future.

We are focusing instead on making adjustments with the battle-related fixes to ensure that you can battle to your utmost ability without having to rely on changing gear multiple times mid-fight.
