Allowing Gear Change in Active Mode

All of the people who are saying no to gear swapping, were probably people who lacked even simple DT- sets on their jobs in FFXI. Gear swapping adds a new dynamic to the game that players can utilize to their advantage. Honestly, if you were even remotely decent in XI, gear swapping shouldn't have been a problem for you.

It's not that it was a problem for me to do, or that I didn't have the gear to do it in XI. The problem is that it's a shitty mechanic that causes more problems than it solves. Battles should be structured in such a way that you're forced to think about things other than what you are wearing to win.

Who said battles wouldn't involved being forced to think about other things than gear swap with the implementation of it? I fail to see any logical reasoning through your argument as to why gear swapping is a hazard to the game. I would also like to hear what these problems are you speak of.

I don't care to get involved with that again, but her response to me earlier boiled down to this.

I said nothing of realism, I said it was ridiculous. Personally, it annoyed the crap out of me in XI when party members did it. I don't care if their doing so benefited me and the party, it was annoying as hell.

So it shouldn't be allowed because it's ridiculous, and it's ridiculous because it's annoying. Is that about the sum of it?

I can't really I'm surprised though, he/she also thought that all AF gear should phase out double meld or less equipment.

On topic: I would like gear swaps because, I'm sure it was said before, it would add more CONTENT which is something people tend to complain about in this game. Gear swapping would provide the OPTION to further better your character through obtaining more items while also making it so there are other aspects of the game to focus on.

With this game in the case of a DPS, it is nothing like FFXI's where it was wait at least 30 seconds to obtain TP to use a single weaponskill. This game you can wait 8 seconds to obtain 1000tp to perform up to THREE weapon skills which also have a certain requirement to use depending on a certain amount of skill. I feel like a majority of the people in this thread bashing gear swapping aren't taking into consideration the vast differences in the two games and how gear swapping would apply.

So what you are saying is that equipment shouldn't be a big part of an mmo to win battles? Then what would be the point of even entering a battle to obtain gear. And the only problems that I hear from people is that it gives inventory problems. When you reach that kind of problem, then you can try and see what gear choices to bring with you are worth it or not. On my Apoc DRK in xi, I carried around 78/80 at all times and that was not every set I could possibly use in every situation. So people that say "OMG I HAD TO CARRY 50 ITEMS FOR ONE JOB", I laugh at them, because those are the people that didn't seem to know what they were doing very well.

1. This is where you have to judge which "macro pieces" are worth it to carry with you.
2. Why does this matter? I guess for an aesthetic feel that has nothing to do with battle mechanics.
3. What's wrong with people wanting to enhance their damage etc.? And if you don't want to do it, then don't do it. Nobody is forcing you. And if you complain about it and don't do it, then you are like a fat person complaining about being fat yet you eat horribly and don't exercise.
4. Again, I don't see how this has anything to do with the situation. Whats the difference between choosing a gearset on a specific move, instead of choosing a gearset on a specific battle. It adds more depth to your abilities and skillful play.

1. Correct.
2. We do not know if there will be character flashing with the new engine.
3. This would only restrict you from playing with the "hardcore" players, which I'm sure you wouldn't be playing with anyways since you think character flashing is a major issue.
4. Or you can think of the optimal sets PRIOR to starting battle with more than 1 set of equipment.
5. It only slows the pace of battle with the current engine. With the new engine I highly doubt there will be such horrid lag when changing gear and it makes battle pace faster as a matter of fact due to optimizing your characters damage output.

So... the only problem is inventory space. Cool.

EDIT: Molly you in no way have to wait a full second between switching gear and using a weapon skill in FFXI. You were just doing macros the wrong way and that was you're own fault. Not the system's.

I say no to it and my thf alone had a build for haste, ws, and evasion. My blm by itself nearly takes up all 80 slots of my inventory. If it weren't for the sachel, sack, and inventory all accessible at any time I'd have a hell of a time changing jobs.

I would defiantly agree if it was added space would need to be made a concern. Hopefully though the mannequin system will fix this though.
