I really don't get why they haven't limited it to 1 house per account yet.
I really don't get why they haven't limited it to 1 house per account yet.
Give one good reason to:
1. Keep grandfathering
2. Keep allowing more than 1 house 1 FC, now cross servers
And then give a reason to:
1. Why should people put up with it?
2. And how does this benefit shortages, when people special rights over others?
It is the players that get punished, not the multiple home owners, you just need to see into the real world problems... and well maybe watch a movie like Full Metal Jacket, where everyone gets punished because of one or a few, where they get to eat donuts and everyone else forced to do pushups.
Well it is kicking the playerbase in a certain place... and collective punishment, to keep permitting grandfathering and 1 house 1 fc per per server, it is disruptive and there is alot of people that use this disruptive behaviour, it is something people forget to see.
People does no like people being favorised like this, SE should had known this from the beginning and SE by it has made these players a target, so they should deal with it, because it keep escalating year after year after year.
And no one of these players can even justify a good reason to why they should.... while everyone else is not permitted to.
1. Keep Grandfathering - SE makes guaranteed income from the grandfathered players, as they run several accounts to hold as many houses as they have.
2. Keep allowing more than 1 house 1 FC - Every character, in SEs eyes, is an entirely different person / player. That means they get the same chances as others. Sure, it doesnt NEED to be that way, but that is how SE runs their systems behind the scenes and I doubt they're willing to put in a large amount of money & time to fix that.
A. Why should people put up with it? - Because most of the hoarders bought their houses when the servers they were on either had no real population, or a population that didn't care about housing. WHEN they bought them is important, y'know. Kind of rude to complain for you coming late to the (metaphorical) party. Most of the good food (and hot food) is gone, but its your fault you were late. Granted it is still kind of a bad play to keep them, but they haven't broken any rules. At least they decorate their houses, rather than leave them empty (This is the case for Mateus' hoarder, specifically. I dont know about the others)
B. How does this benefit shortages when people get special rights over others? - It benefits SE to keep the hoarders hoarding. Again, they pay several accounts worth of fees to maintain their houses. To remove the houses from them risks that income. No company alive would slap a player that is guaranteed to stay (and risk them leaving) to give those resources to "Timmy" who could leave next month.
B(2). And nobody has "special rights" over others. Quit with that delusion. Even if they did rip all of the houses away from the hoarders (they won't.) your chances of getting a house are still in the .01%s because of how easy it is to get involved with the housing. Now, it's just put gil down and walk away. That means 100s if not 1000s more people can get into it, as its no longer spam-clicking a placard to get it. (I'm glad they moved away from placard-spamming, but that has definitely hurt your chances.)
At best, if all of the houses got removed, you'd still not get one as they would be given to Bots of Shell-FCs, like they always have. Purely because they can put FAR more tickets down than you can.
Seriously. Stop gunning for them. It's just wasted breath at this point. x.x

You've gotten plenty.
Not wasting my time talking with you other than hit you with some cold water from time to time to try and wake you up. You don't have a clue when it comes to fairness let alone when it comes to the company who has already made their stance clear and honoring their word is something I trust they will do. You don't set the rules the company does and people who follow them aren't doing anything wrong. Your punitive suggestions aren't going anywhere given SE will not retroactively enforce new rules on players who followed them.
As I've told you many times come back when you see it in the patch notes it's not going to happen.
People who buy houses on multiple accounts and multiple servers are not part of the grandfathered clause. That term in my view ONLY refers to people with one account who had purchased more than one private house on the same server prior to the rule change in 4.2 which stopped that dead in it's tracks and which has been working as intended ever since. That is over 4 years ago.
The issue of FC abuse is an entirely different issue and for some reason SE has not been able to find a solution to prevent the multiple purchases of Free Companies per server by the same account. The intent was clear in my mind at least when they say 1 FC and 1 Private per server. The motivation for abusing that intent is mostly because of airships/subs and gil farming by private people or by RMT. The resale of FC houses is also another motivating factor that causes people to do that.
SE could have and perhaps should have stopped the purchasing of houses on other servers and limited it to one FC and one personal per account but they haven't. For those who want that they need to petition the team to make that change. Until they do that people will make use of the ability to purchase houses on other servers and Data Centers because SE is allowing it and has been for years.
Now if they were to in fact stop the ability and limit people to one private and one FC house per account the issue of grandfathering in those houses purchased on other servers and data centers would come into play. I would fully expect them to grandfather those houses and apply the new rules only to new purchases.

If you're going to argue based on revenue, then you should know that 1 person paying a monthly sub for 50 houses generates 50 times less revenue than 50 player paying the same sub to keep those same houses.
A. those were the rules then, the rules are different now, sticking your head in the sand over and over and saying that people who joined after you is absolutely ridiculous. Imagine if they just lopped off the entire first 2 ultimates and made those weapons unachievable for anyone who joined after endwalker. Do you think people would be upset that someone was allowed to earn and keep something they are prevented from earning now? These types of "fuck you, I got mine" situations build up and they're what drives down the growth of games. Why would I want to start playing FFXIV when there's old content locked off from me forever? Most people would rather just take a chance on a new MMO than join a late one because of these legacy and grandfathered in situations,
B. They do have special rights, you can jump up and down and shout about it all you want but there are special rules that apply to only certain people. Anyone who joined after then is considered a second class citizen in the housing system and has an entirely different set of rules they have to follow compared to other players. Why do they get special rules while everyone else has to adhere to a completely different standard?
Its Easy.
Reason 1: SE made a announcement saying they would not take away homes from players who did NOT exploit or break any rules.. In fact they followed the rules as SE put them out in writing..
SE them self's determined this would be PUNISHING players who Followed the rules and did nothing wrong it was all on SE end.
End of the day its pretty simple and been said 1,000 times..
SE them self's made there beds with both ward housing and there written rules..
So now you want SE to say were gonna PUNISHISH players who followed our rules for a few hundred houses instead of putting all you engery into telling SE find a fix for this problem them few hundred houses wont do crap..
Say they did?? What ya gonna be posting after that when theres no housing and still Thousand upon Thousand of people with out a house?
What is your next band aid fix???

The rules are different now, but SE has already said several times they aren't going to touch Grandfathered players. That means they won't touch them, no matter how much you disagree with that decision. it is overall their choice and their product. If you dislike that, then toodles to you, bud. They won't miss you.
"Why would I want to start playing FFXIV when there's old content locked from me forever" - Dude, sorry to burst your bubble. But there IS content that you can no longer do in FFXIV. The Diadem is one such thing. (And no, I'm not talking about the Diadem we now have thanks to the Firmament. I mean the ORIGINAL Diadem.) If you didn't get all the rewards from Diadem 1.0, then sucks for you, as they aren't being added anywhere else. The amount of venom directed towards people who bought a house before you only makes them more inclined to keep the house, if only to spite you.
Yes, this happens. You constantly saying they should be punished will make sure this continues to be a thing. Once again, you came in much later in an MMOs lifecycle. Plenty of MMOs remove old content. This is not something new. If you're -that- upset about not getting a house when it was the 1st iteration of the system (First come, first served, 50mil for a small.) then frankly, move on. Because you're only setting yourself up for disappointment.
And no. They don't have special rights. What they have, they earned. Taking away things they earned is not okay under any circumstance. You still have access to the Housing system. Sure, it may take a while for you to get in, but you are still able to throw your hat into the ring. As it stands, the systems in place certainly make it hard and I feel for you. But at the same time, I'm not about to join in on the parade of "Hate these guys because they have something I want".
I played the Placard-spam. I got mine. I still hate the system I used to get it, but I feel Placard-spamming is inherently better than Lottery. at least with placard-spamming you had to be actively trying to get it. Not put money in a hat and walk off. And everyone knows how much we despised the Placard-spam system.
You joined late, thus you must deal with being a late-joiner. That isn't a bad thing, but it certainly doesn't mean you have much ground to stand on when you start acting entitled.
EDIT: For examples of MMOs cutting old content. GW2 with Living World Season 1 (They are now fixing this, mind), Most of WoWs Vanilla Dungeons (some updated to cata. Others left to rot) and a fair chunk of TERA. I'm pretty sure even SWTOR does it too.
