Chances at a house before next expansion?

Are you genuinely subscribed solely for the chance to get a house?

If so, you're playing the wrong game. You should be putting your money into a game where you don't have to fight to get a house.

Of course not but when the game advertises things like : "A new residential district: Ishgard" as a selling point along with housing one would expect to be able to interact with this system without needing to bend over backwards to use it to the full potential. (Apartments are not the same if you equate them to be the same you have already lost)

Housing is already instances. SE just refuses to explain why they can't/won't provide larger sizes and more of it.

If only we had some sort of island where we could place the entrance to these instanced houses....

It has residences in the form of both houses and apartments. Those who want to live in that district have the option to get an apartment when a house isn't available.

There's no false or deceptive advertising going on. No one is guaranteed access to the "full potential" of housing since to get that you effectively must be an FC master of a FC that has acquired a large house or granted full access to housing features by such a FC master.

I've never been one to claim that an apartment is the same as a house but an apartment does share most of the basic features that those who want a house are looking for. They are at least a good taste of the housing system while you're attempting to obtain a house.

But that wasn't the discussion. Gunbladesman was referring to the patch website, which said "New Residential District: Empyreum" followed by the description "Thanks to tireless volunteers from near and far, Ishgard's once-ruined Firmament now boasts a host of facilities─including a brand-new residential area, Empyreum! During the first round of sales, empty plots will be distributed via lottery system, so those who yearn to live amidst the grandiose stonework of Eorzea's ice-crowned city-state will want to visit the plaque of their favorite property to enter.".

Where in that does any intelligent person get the impression that it promises a player will be guaranteed a house in Ishgard or any other location?

As for misleading advertising in general, any consumer with half a brain understands that the sample picture in an ad is not a guarantee of what will be available when they go to buy. It promises a housing system and that's what the game delivers. It would only be misleading if there were no houses in the game at all so all players could get are apartments or if the ad guaranteed every player will get a house, which it does not. Plenty of players do own houses. Houses do become available for purchase at intervals. Unfortunately, not all who want one have been able to get one.

Players need to stop wasting time nitpicking over trivial stuff. They need to stop blaming other players for acquiring something in the past that other players cannot get now.

We need to get our act together and put pressure on SE to fix the supply. That is the only way that every player who wants a house will be able to get one. Changing advertising won't do it. Removing grandfathering won't do it. Resuming demolition won't do it. Going back to FCFS placard spam won't do it.

There is literally no other part of the game that you cannot participate in besides having a house wtihout needing to put in insane amounts of time clicking pre-lotto or gambling now. Housing has been in the game for 8 years and it's just so dumb. So what if housing isn't the main focus of the game maybe to you it isn't but, to someone else having a house is just as important as having a class they like or doing raids. SE has shown that over these past 8 years they are very slow in implementing anything beyond small fixes over a long amount of time.

Chances were highest during lottery cycle #1 and have since dropped precipitously and will continue to do so unless SE makes a new DC and try your luck there. Again... cycle #1 will have the highest chances.

Apartments are probably still readily available on most servers.

Completely false, the official site for this feature quite literally displays a HOUSE. They are very clearly advertising houses as housing despite only a tiny sliver of the population having access to them.
