I’ve been farming extreme mounts since late HW and I’ve had more than my fair share of 99+ grind. I’ve been saying for years that it’s absolutely ridiculous and you’re too right about people here defending the grind.

“You are lucky, I remember when there was no totem trade in!” So what? It’s 2022, the game is like 10 years old. Be better, SE.

Definitely think after an expansion they should either increase the totem drop rate to 2 per encounter or drop the cost by half.

Notice that some of the "harder" ones drop 2 totems? How about if that became the general fix?

Lets just ... bloat... the concept of harder, make more of them drop 2 at once.

Course, on the other hand, keeping completionists playing the game is kind of the point of the game, if more people get the rewards faster, less people who actually know the fights will be there to teach others, and this will actually make the fights even harder.

It's an intersting tossup, aint it?
At a certain point with unsync difficulty becomes meaningless. I was helping someone get their mount today and Suzaku was dropping in 2 min. 30s of that was her phase change.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

If you think that has anything to do with what I said you might want to re-read what I said, or I guess I could explain again?

    Lets try this again.

If you require everybody who wants the mount, but isn't lucky, to run the trial 99 times vs them needing to run it 50 times, that's 49 more times that the person who needs the mount will be in a trial while knowing what to do, and being able to instruct others on how to do the raid. 49 more times they can be forced to teach the new incoming player who has never done it before how to do it.

They might not have to every time, but they are forced to be there by circumstances.

This gives squenix a collection of free teachers that will be there doing the ex trials.

It's like how the mentor roulette forces somebody into the experience who knows what to do if things go horribly wrong for long enough.
