Mount Farming and the 99 Totem Issue

The current system of acquiring 99 totems to purchase a mount from any of the EX trials is absolutely ridiculous and a clear indicator from SE that they do not care about your personal time.

Do you care about your personal time? I don't farm mounts. Why, you ask? Because I don't find it particularly fun, and it isn't worth my time. The fact of the matter is that lots of players do, in fact, grind 99 totems because they judge that it is worth their time. (And here's the secret - for those people, the fact that they'll do the grind and you won't is part of what makes it worth their time.)

Edit - and who has ever said they ENJOY doing the same fight 99 times? Because I have literally never encountered that person. The people doing the fights for the totem trade in have never said they’re glad they didn’t win the mount before they got 99 totems.

You think that rarity doesn't drive people to get certain mounts/glams/drops/etc? I - disagree.

Being able to sit in Limsa/Orgrimmar/Qeynos/etc. with that mount that other people don't have if definitely part of the value of getting the mount in the first place.

Maybe not 99 times, but I do actually enjoy a number of the fights, especially at level. I got lucky on Zodiark and picked it up on my 15th run. I kept going for a few more after winning and did some more later on. I got my 100 from Endsinger and still pop in now and again. I'll do these on different jobs to keep things interesting.

Friend, I'm gonna warn u, don't let Billy Bob's name fall out of your mouth unless it's for praise.

I was at Pizza Hut & I said these bread sticks suck so bad even Billy Bob wouldn't eat em, then next thing I know he drove his Ford pickup truck through the wall, got out & beat me up using the bread sticks on my plate.

I mean the ability to buy the mount with 99 totems is something the community actually asked for. People wanted a guaranteed way to get the mount even if their luck was bad.

I been saying this for a long time. I think 50 totems is more then fair for getting amount if the rng/roll wasn't on your side. 99 is WAY to many fights and by then you are so tired from that fight you never want to do it again. It's the total opposite of what they want. I get they do it to keep it "fresh" and keep people having that fight filled with people but 99 is way to much and actually has people deter that fight once done

"Fair" is the wrong metric here - this has nothing to do with justice or desert. If it isn't fun for you, just don't do it.

99 is WAY to many fights and by then you are so tired from that fight you never want to do it again. It's the total opposite of what they want.

I don't think that this is supported by evidence. There are seemingly plenty of people who do, in fact, grind out basically every mount a new time a fight comes out. Further, part of the reason why they do it is exactly because other people won't stick out the grind - those who do get to roll around in that new benz.

I'm not saying that the number should be 99 or 50 or 25 - I am saying is that that grind not being worth it for everyone is what makes it worth it for some. (For the record, I wouldn't do any grind beyond about 10, and even that's a grind that I'd only do for something that I really wanted. 20, 50, 99 - it's all the same to me as I'm not doing it in any case.)

I think the highest I have ever gone (so far) toward getting a mount was 75 totems, and that was on Zurvan. Oof is all I have to say. I farmed that at the beginning of Stormblood, and even at max level he was fully capable of wiping a full group of people. Farming him was rough then. But yeah, I was fully expecting to have to go the full 99 at that point. It can be daunting. I wouldn't complain if they made the requirement 50 instead of 99 though.

You’re one of the players I’m referring to that no-life it and are now gatekeeping. I can’t take any opinion you have seriously. You offer little to no understanding of the discussion.
