Maybe they all have white hair because all the pitiable attempts at actual color look terrible? Yes, I want red hair that's RED.

this is sooo true!
We can find only real red in one single color for highlights and not in all hairstyles... =/
I really miss red too :'(

I think it's moreso that the Scions cast haven't rly changed since ARR, Estinien is the exception to this but he's from Ishgard so it makes sense he's Elezen.
That said I'd like to see some more characters of the different races.
At the same time tho I'd also like to see an aged up Ryne join us lol, I think Alphinaud and Alisaie could be aged up a bit too.
I managed to create red hair on Highlander that looked rly good imo.
It seems to be harder on some races tho like Elezen and Roegadyn, their haircolors seem to be more washed out.
I wish we had a slider for colors with the whole spectrum.
It's funny tho how common Elezen are meant to be and how rare they are with the players lol, and also how much more common Viera are than they are meant to be canonically.Elezen are the 2nd most common race from Eorzea after Hyur so it's pretty natural they'd have a high presence. No one complained about or noticed Minfilia, Thancred, and Lyse all being Hyur. Alphinaud and Alisae are Elezen because their grandfather, Louisoix was an Elezen and they wanted to make new characters who connected to the old story. Estinien started as an edgy 1.0 job quest character and somehow got promoted over time from that to MSQ party member and then eventually Scion by virtue of happening to be an existing character with an existing story relating to the Dragonsong War and then after that, having been a prominent and popular character before so they brought him around again. Urianger... I pretend doesn't exist.
The white hair can probably be explained by standard JRPG tropes and the fact that the Scions came from the artist Akihiko Yoshida, who also gave us characters like 2B, 9S, and A2. I think Yoshi-P recognized the white hair being prevalent in an interview.
I wonder if the white or blonde hair may have had a reason originally tho, maybe it was intended to be some kind of a sign that someone had been chosen by Hydaelyn or something but it was scrapped.

If I'm not mistaken, they adressed about this color problem in a live letter (I think... 2018 or maybe 2019...). So, they can't make a full spectrum slider for hair colors because there is a limitation to that on the game engine....

Like I said in some random posts here: we need a better engine to solve all our problems. From visuals to housing, to reporting system, we could definitely receive a revised and better engine capable of solving all the problems this game have. I know: they will never do that. But a person can dream, right?![]()
So, we have to use those washed up reds for our hairs in some hairstyles 'til sea swallows all u.u

lol, there is no "limitation on the game engine". That's PR talk and SE's favorite free lunch card for anything that might require them to have some more money invested into actually developing the game rather than furthering the monetization of it. It is absolutely possible to have any hair color you want within the engine. They just don't want to update character creation with new swatches, or ideally, give us an actual RGB palette like every other game made in the last ~5 years. Like, it's 2022 and we STILL only have one layer for face paint/makeup. Give me a break. If I'm not mistaken, they adressed about this color problem in a live letter (I think... 2018 or maybe 2019...). OT: The white hair thing is probably due to the Japanese trope of characters with white hair being considered either "alien" or special in some way, or being powerful. Being inhuman, essentially. All of the Scions that travel with the WoL would be considered to be exceptionally powerful characters within the lore, obviously.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the races of the Scions. It's really just the most likely composition based on the lore and locations the Scions are from.

Yeah, and the fact that over half of the red options got overwritten by pink might have something to do with the limited options.
