Why is player housing so coveted in the community?

I'm not asking this to be passive agressive, or dismissive, etc, I am legitimately curious. Does player housing offer things people wouldn't have access to through the game? Or is there more to it? I have assumed that since it's such a coveted system, it has some sort of advantage that the game outside of housing offers.

FC housing definitely adds features that players don't normally have access to

FC Workshop (and by extension airships and submarines)
Gardening
FC Buffs

Private housing only gets the garden


However both can also serve as outlets of expression too and not just min/max'ing tools

If a FC owns the house then yes, it lets you do airship/submarine stuff. You build airships and submarines and send them out on voyages and they come back with items. There are certain items that can only be obtained from it.

Also, outdoor furnishings. And storage for furnishings. I have an apartment, a FC house, a FC room, and a private house. Each of those has it's own storage. Someone with just an apartment can't store as many indoor furnishings or any outdoor ones. And furnishings are pretty regularly given out as limited time event rewards that later cost real money on the mogstation.

But it's primarily coveted because there are only so many houses and people like having things that not everyone has.

It scratches the "Stardew Valley/Story of Seasons" part of my brain.
I sold mine because I take frequent breaks from the game and I don't want to continue paying a sub for a game I'm not playing.

But there's fun to be had in decorating a house with the furniture you crafted with yourself.
It's relaxing in a way.

I love housing because I am an OMNI crafter/gatherer and I love making things. I love making gear and now that the lottery has created many home owners I see fantastic home decorations. These picturesque exteriors with their expertly done interiors great each visitor like valued customers. Either a cafe' , garden, or bathhouse style all these houses look wonderful.

People don't need a house for that all you need to do is spend some time at the Quicksand in Ul Dah on Balmung.

And seriously I love housing and spend my time in my garden of inside my house when not doing content.

Creative expression as a lot have already said is the primary reason. Apartments are really limited with what you can do because of the 100 item limit plus there is no outside to decorate as well. A lot of people also want the ability to cross breed plants which apartments are unable to do as well.
