Oof. I know that feeling. Who knows what other players are thinking, though. Maybe their attention just latched onto someone else for any random reason. Maybe they forgot all about Comms at all. Who knows. Sometimes knowing you did good has to be its own reward, and you move on to the next party and try again.

Pretty much. Sometimes I just wanna get out of a group asap. Sometimes I'm responding to someone on discord while everyone else leaves. If I cared for comms, I would give people time to select me. It is however funny getting a comm despite leaving quickly. Some people are pretty quick with that lol
I wondered how come we can't do it as well originally. Would be great to have this as an option.

I feel most people don't actively collect comms, so they aren't going to hang around waiting for them, but at the same time it's nice to get a "good job" and a thanks for playing well from time to time.
"You should wait or you don't deserve it" is silly. If you played really well, you deserved it more than one of the 2 people who hang around behind hoping for a second-hand passed down comm. Even if you don't need the comm, if they generally went to the player the group felt did best, then when you do get one it's more likely you actually earned it. It would also mean players can reflect a moment on who did well, instead of just speed comm'ing the catgirl or their favorite glam before the group vanishes.
I imagine it's a coding difficulty, but not an impossible one. After all, the game remembers exactly who you grouped with after instances in the Contacts tab and even lets you FL them, so it could assign comms too. The Devs probably just aren't bothered putting work into it unless they have to.
Usually "dammit which healer scraped me up off the floor?". I barely even register if there's a SMN or RDM in the party much less remember they can rez as well and I play SMN with Swift-Raise committed to muscle memory.
What's worse is that I try to make an effort to remember the name that popped up in the dialog but that has its own challenges. I'm more likely to remember the flower separator between name and world (Thanks brain that's a big help /s). Throw in a dose of adrenaline and I have no hope of remembering my own name much less who I should comm.
This is true, but what do i do if i try my best to exit as quickly as possible but some supersonic commendator still has time to do it? Like, dude, was it really so important that you mashed buttons just to shove one on me in a hurry? I wonder what motivates such behaviour.
I don't mean to scold or anything, but just a general PSA for anyone out there: If you're concerned about other players getting their due commendations, there is a system in place that allows you to simply give them commendations rather than insta-yeeting yourself out of a dungeon ASAP. A customary "gg" or "thanks for the group" doesn't go unappreciated either, even if it's a trivial gesture. When people just leave without a word, it kind of comes off like:
Just saying, the reason you don't care about comms anymore is that other players stuck around long enough to give them to you.
Your explanation is very digestible! Thank you for taking time clarifying itIt's a data integrity thing. When you leave the instance, the instance server hands your character data back to a world server. If people were allowed to comm you after you've left or, more to the point, during the leaving process, the timing of it could potentially allow duplication of comms or forfeiture of comms, and so it would require additional validations to make sure the data is correct.
Much safer is to disallow comming anyone who has left so that the data is only modified once and additional checks are unnecessary. The other safe option would be to hold everyone hostage until everyone has voted, and that's not an option at all, so here we are. If people leave, they've forfeited their comms. Don't lose any sleep over not patting them on the back fast enough; they don't care and it's not worth taking the time to make them comm-able.![]()
When I see somebody I want to comm though, I'd anticipate them trying to bolt out real quick so I made sure I'm not wasting time to type a "Tyfr!" before doing so. It's not a big deal when I miss it, it's just: "Aw man, that's 1 comm wasted".
yeah, i met really nice players in the game, but they leave too fast for me giving comms, for me it is just a way to thank them
or, maybe have the change like multiple comm based on roles? like, a comm for a dps, a comm for a healer and a comm for a tank, even if this wouls be targeted to duties with a party with 2 healers and tanks...
