Sanctuary Island - Housing Hope or Doman Enclave 2.0?

So, if the developers produce a terrible piece of content, then it's the players who are to blame because they shouldn't have expected decent quality for the money they pay?

Don't get me wrong, I have zero hype for this. But if Island Sanctuary is indeed rubbish, it's not the players who are at fault. Just because Yoshida told us in advance it would probably be rubbish, doesn't make it ok.

No. They hyped it up a few times (mostly at Fanfest) then when people started running with speculation off of a few things YoshiP said about it in the interviews leading up to Endwalker, they told us not to get our hopes up and went radio silent.

I think it's really obvious it won't be instanced housing, but I do think SE tried to play the usual PR hype-up game and it backfired. Mostly because the current housing situation is a mess and people desperately want some solution to it. Can't blame anyone since housing capacity has been an issue for several years now despite being advertised as one of the major features of the game.

Basically, SE accidentally tapped into the desire players have to fix a longstanding problem SE has refused to address or really even acknowledge. So the ultimate takeaway is that SE needs to fix the housing system.

I think what Sanctuary Island will boil down to in the end, is the "Doman Enclave" of Endwalker. Essentially an instance which will most likely work like the beast tribe reputation system (or well the Doman enclave): It levels up and with level ups structures will be erected automatically at every given milestone. SQEX probably will be adding one or two mini-games for the novelty factor, consisting of mechanics we know from Stormblood to now, or even better - daily quests which are reflections of the daily beast tribe quests.

One of the little tidbits that back this up is Yoshi saying "And if you want your barn to be in cedar, then you plant and grow your cedar"

I don't think it will give gil rewards, and I don't think it will have tradable materials. No MB from it, certainly no onions.

I still think it's a case of time-gated doman-like preset buildings, not a house, and you get to do a little puzzle for exotic materials.

'Showing your friends' will be showing them the exact same thing they have but with your material choices. "Oh, that's nice, you used Pine wood for your barn! I used the cedar, took longer to growm but it was such a pretty colour"

He did a series of interviews too. That's when the speculation really started. He explicitly said you start with a "blank canvas", place things like buildings, decorate, invite friends over, etc.

Initially, the only thing he said expectation wise was not to expect "animal crossing" because that's a full blown game. Totally fair.

I dunno where the insistence comes from that players created most of the hype. I think players have run with what was said, but the stuff he said was pretty neat and clearly meant to create hype. It does sound similar to housing in how it was described, so I don't blame anyone.

But in all seriousness, i somehow doubt this would be another Doman Enclave-like hub, because they've been working on this since before Shadowbringers. Did people just forget that this was originally supposed to launch with the Shadowbringers expansion?
