6.2 Hrothgar Update

Developing content for 6.2, 6.3 and even 7.0. there is most likely strict budgeting and time secluding and we also know ff14 devs and billed out to ff16 and ff11. they were pretty clear they didn't want to add a new race after Au Ra but the community kept pushing and as a result, they get lacklustre attention at the end of the day modders do one thing in their free time but SE employees still have to make new content.

Ok? Amazing. Great. I'm so stoked the NEW CONTENT they add every patch includes like superduper necessary things like...aquarium fish and a parasol emote. While theres a race in their game that still has to change its entire face if it wants to use its racial hair.

This is such a lameass excuse honest to god like WE SEE them add new stuff every patch that just plain doesnt work, at all, if you dare to play a race from shb. There is 0 reason to not make every single new hat or hair work for hrothgar and viera but we have "oh its hard oooh they have to add a 2 minute solo instance to msq ooh its so difficult please understand" while two PLAYER RACES get the shitcovered end of the stick. Every single time. For YEARS.

"They didn't want to add another race" According to Yoship hrothgar was a race he wanted to add since Heavensward but ok.
And limitations shouldn't be an issue if the director of the game proudly declares they will "spare no expense" going forward with endwalker.
And I don't know why everyone who doesn't play hrothgar feels so compelled to shit on people who take issue with these things.
But ok enjoy your "human but my eyes are purple because the devs are so so creative"-tier race I guess.

But Viera WAS added, and is the devs favorite, something noticeable to everybody. Hrothgar needs help, badly.

Also, if you want to know just how stupid your "Hrothgar was a mistake" comment is, as of the last census, there are more active Hrothgar players than there are female elves. There are more active Hrothgar players than there are active female Roe players. There are more active Hrothgar than there are male Roe players. For something that "was a mistake", it sure seems more popular than 3 specific race/gender combinations, INCLUDING the one you're playing.

He also said that H/V would get racial specific hairtsyles and updates to them as the patches went on which....that OBVIOUSLY didn't happen. Promises were made in the beginning that were recanted afterwards without at least coming forward and telling the players of said races that they would no longer be receiving these updates. I know this problem was fixed, but no where did yoshi say that Hrothgar would have to pay to change their hair because their hair was tied to their face. Please be quiet. :^)
Yoshi was the one who wanted a beast type race. The only other race that the *PLAYERS* wanted was Viera which Yoshi originally did NOT want to add.

The difference between V/H were that a *BEAST TYPE PLAYABLE RACE* was what Yoshi himself wanted. Viera was not something he wanted, but was coaxed into it

Just the fact that it was literally never stated ANYWHERE that not only would the aesthetician not work but you would be forced to spend extra money to alter your hair at all should be enough to get people to not religiously simp for Yoshi "Never blatantly lies to players" P but here we are. A whole player has to pay to use an ingame feature, and only players of that race ever gave a damn.

To be fair, asking a team that was clearly not equipped to create and maintain a beast race of sufficient quality was indeed the wrong thing to do. I cannot ask a McDonald's line cook to suddenly start making gourmet sushi and expect good results. There was a massive failure in reading the room and understanding what the majority of the playerbase wanted to see in future race additions - something wasn't as limited as on-release Viera and Hrothgar.

I suspect that given WoW's trend at the time of releasing one allied race after the other with quite limited customization gave the impression that FFXIV could get away with doing the same thing. Anyone who has spent a significant amount of time mingling with the playerbase and looking at people in game can see why that isn't the case. FFXIV players highly value customization of their characters down to the last detail and chasing after new customization rewards because unlike most mmorpgs, they only play that one character or at most have 1-2 alts instead of 10 like in WoW or Lost Ark.

Instead of fighting with players who for various reasons do not like Hrothgar or take issue with the manner in which they were implemented, focus instead on keeping the conversation focused on getting the updates this race needs because the fact that we are in the year 2022 and we are still having this discussion regarding their limited state is unacceptable.

Please stop excusing the development team at every turn about "how hard" content is and about "how much" we get.

These patches are planned out FAR in advance, by people led by a man who would allegedly time their bathroom breaks back in the development of ARR. Rarely ever have they needed to change their course, and often it was for a good reason.

Meaning everything you guys are pointing out has already been planned for quite a while now. If Hrothgar updates have not been part of that list, it's because the team didn't think they would be relevant. And that has already proven to be a problem, with several players feeling disgruntled at a 3-year wait leading up to meme-worthy and sad updates.

If this were your race, you wouldn't like it either.

So if they can give us detailed stuff and entire systems with "strict budgeting", then fixing stuff such as hairstyles should have been calculated as a part of their to-do list with that budget.
If they did care, they would have had included it in their to-do list, seen the budget, and allocated resources\organized priorities accordingly.
And that alone would mean we wouldn't have had minor systems and content being pushed out before Hrothgars had a proper update.
Because, as it stands, it's obvious it wasn't taken into consideration, and that a rushed job was the preferable way to go about it.

This isn't even getting into the "Modders do better" argument. That's another can of worms. This is just sheer "what can the devs do". And what they can do is plan things ahead, which they do. And allocate things based on what players actually have been asking for three years, which they did not.
