Dear weapon designers, books are the most boring weapon

I want to say it is tied to some of the motions you do while doing a job action/emotes (like writing something or "reading" it).

That said, assuming people wouldn't scream about immersion (ahmagerd, why is my character writing in the air!), I don't see an issue with any hand held object, really. A floating orb/crystal/holographic bahamut or whatever could be great.

All that said, I think the most out there for SMN is the FFXIII crossover book.

I mean... papercuts? Sure, you won't bleed to death, but the amount of pain you'll be experiencing will likely impair your judgment and ability to fight back for a while.

It's certainly painful enough to be hit by knowledge. Their autoattacks are the strongest amongst all spellcasters for some reason lmao.

That's right... even with the example you put, it would be immersion breaking since it's the only example without actual pages - when the summoning animation is "writing". As long as the proposed item has a foldable flat surface of something, let it be a tablet, a piece of wood or a glowing rune, it should be fine - but then, that's the template of the weapon model to begin with (as seen by the weapon contest).

ooh.... a haloween themed book with spiders hanging on webs on the edges of the book would be nice.
Extra points if when the books are opened, bats come out with a poof

Scholar uses the pages from the book with abilities like Protraction or Excog and slams the book shut with spells like Adlo, Succor, Emergency Tactics and Esuna so I imagine that's why they've never given Scholar anything other than the book. Tablets and such would look a bit silly if the Scholar was trying to close it or lifting pages out of nowhere. With that being said though I've always felt like SMN should use a different weapon, the book isn't really fitting.

i dont even play SMN but my favorit SMN weapon is the Ktisis one... its so trippy like. holy

it basically is a normal book when folded, but wait, when you draw it you can SEE Trough the Cover(and back cover) and see a floating "crystal"(its not a crystal, but a Diamond shaped 3d object)
BUT WAIT; if you look at it from above your characters should, not only is the Crystal still there, but you ALSO see that you CANT see trough...



on a different note. I kinda disagree that "books arent fitting for SMN" But i am also very unfamiliar with Final fantasy as a whole, and while i KNOW that it isnt how it works in XIV as well.... i personally always connect Summoning(and arcane knowledge) with summoning circles, or incantations, or using the books inate magic to invoke something.


Like for me, using Grimoires is just as fitting as you can be for Arcanist and in extension SMN

The only other weapon I've seen for summoners is a staff and we have plenty of those. The book works not just for the arcanist link, but in general to separate it from BLM / WHM.
