The Ancients passed the test as best they were able and Venat murdered them before they had any chance to look into the truth behind it. Using the better parts of the nature (wisdom and self sacrifice) the Anicents prevented there doom, given that they had been explicitly told that was causing the Final Days has ceased to exist it was unfair to expect them to do much more in the time frame they were given.
