No point them going to this extent prior to 2.0, in 2.0 we are getting content finder which is a much more efficient way of doing what you suggested above.PINKIE PIE! NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo!
In all serious though for instances and raids is how I meant it, for lesser quests then people are likely to either do them alone or with friends anyway. I would greatly appreciate a system whereby I could log in and say 'I want to do X' (ifrit for example) and then go craft while a counter in the bottom of my screen says something along the lines of '2/4 players available for selected quest'. Combine that with a queue group chat and I think you have a pretty good system.
I hasten to add that you wouldn't necessarily auto-group with people in the queue, it is up to people in the queue to talk in the chat box and group up, preferably straight from the menu system. Otherwise you end up in a situation with 4 people that chose to specialise BLM or DRG are taking on an enemy or you end up grouped with someone you know you don't get on with.
Yea I guess probably closer to how WoW and Rift does it though.
Open world can still exist if SE do it correctly, like for example joining the content finder from outside a dungeon only, so you would still be required to walk to the dungeon.
We already have NPC's that let us into the dungeons so having a new option to join a queue would make sense.
