Perhaps. Just to note that in the FFXIV galaxy where Etheirys is at least, we had a full sci-fi civilization that possibly possessed multiple worlds and spread a common language among them. It's interesting how we went from a fantasy somewhat bows and arrows to being in the same setting as interstellar empires.

Worth noting amid all this: Allag had technology for facilitating "communication over the massive distances between stars".

First time? The transition we have is similar to that of WoW where in the base game they had literally dungeons and dragons and in the first expansion had you going inside a spaceship filled with intergalactic demons.
I'm not much into sci-fi but I have to say, a smooth mix of fantasy and sci-fi might be a thing for me...
This makes me feel bad about Sigma dreamscape because it could have been an expansion plot if not more than that instead of the side-content we got.

Kranel_San touched on this, but this is very much a part of the genre; Spelljammer (from D&D) has been a thing since 1989, and that was late to the show. I think my first encounter with this was Krull.

Re: Omega: I was under the same conclusion as Silver Arrow.

    M17 transferred to Omega
then Sir transferred into M17's empty Frame.

    Kinda like hermet crabs....kinda...not really.

My first encounter with it was Final Fantasy 1; the Floating Fortress was always intended to be 'sci-fi in a fantasy world'. It's been around the series ever since in various forms; FFIV had the Lunarians, V had the Ronkans. VI was the first one to go in the other direction, with the present society as the sci-fi and the 'neighbors' being magical fantasy.

Hell, sci-fi and fantasy being neighbors is debatably older than them being separate; back in the early 20th century there were plenty of tales of fantasy warriors meeting robots and aliens, or your scientist types studying magic as another form of knowledge; John Carter of Mars and Conan the Barbarian were both very much in that space. It was only later on that you started seeing more separation.

Exactly – "across the galaxy". To form a common language across a galaxy, there needs to be interaction between multiple planets in that galaxy, and the way it's talked about suggests that it is more than just "Omicrons invaded everywhere and took their language with them".

Prior to Endwalker we only knew about the Omicrons and dragons being at war with each other, which essentially needs only the one invading civilisation to be capable of space flight (though the dragons seem to have that naturally); now we may have an entire galaxy of spacefarers.
