The lack of Pride seasonal events is super disrespectful to the trans community

Kind of tired of companies coming out in support of the LGBTQ+ community only during the month of June, seems kind of like a cash grab at this point so I don't really care about FFXIV's lack of pride-themed event.

You just need to go to twitter and look at all their rainbow badges on the western company branch. And then the big fat nothing on their middle eastern branches. They don't give a shit about LGBT, they just want your money.

FFXIV expanding the female exclusive outfits to be available to male characters is more support for self expression than any of those companies have ever done. I think they look awful, but I am glad they have the choice.

There are very few (if any actually) official "Pride" events in mmorpgs - there are tons of well done community created and hosted events though which is better imo.

DCUO has surprisingly given a flag cape and flag emblem for this month from last year and not sure what they gave before that. If a game has no history doing it I'd rather they make the decision all their own, than social media or whatever forces that be force them into doing so.

DCUO does it because it's a western MMO, where there's more pressure for representation. Plus the game had been on the decline for years, so you'd want it to be all inclusive to draw in potentially new players. I wanna say there may even be events featuring heroes and villains that are members LGBT.

And I live in a household which is extremely diverse with orientation etc. We just all sorta stopped caring about the superficial stuff and got on with life.

It's the predatory commercialisation of identity. It allows that company to tell their shareholders and donors that they support a noble cause without donating to anything worthwhile, such as cancer research or research into STDs, which would help the LGBT community. Instead, it's the LGBT community funding organisations to make themselves feel validated because they feel worthless inside. It's predatory as hell and worsens the divide in society. It's not that different from EA preying upon people's gambling addictions.

Shame people feel the need to weaponise ToS to silence other people. Ironic the people calling for tolerance do tend to be the most intolerant to people not eating up all the things they try to feed you. In games they will try to have you banned and irl they will come instead for your livelihood. Pretty disgusting.

And I would also wonder why people pointing out gender dysphoria is mental illness is taken so poorly? Sounds like the stigma against mental illness rearing it's head. We are not lesser for suffering from a mental illness, we just have challenges to face that some others do not. Getting all offended at someone saying x is a mental illness (when it is) is you in your mind saying that mental illness is bad or that you are somehow lesser for having it.

Understanding gender dysphoria went a long way for many people in accepting trans people in the first place and now many are trying to throw it out the window and say anyone can be trans without suffering from the thing that would cause you to transition in the first place. If you are A ok with your body, sex, gender etc.. what exactly is the motivator for you to claim the trans title? I have no idea. To me it seems some people enjoy aspects typical of the opposite gender and as such say they are trans, but you are just a guy or girl who doesn't conform to stereotypes.. ykno tomboy, femboi etc. I don't think trans is a descriptor that applies to a person that just enjoys the other sex's clothing etc. Clothing and make up are just things we made ourselves, sex and gender is deeper than that.

That's just my thoughts on it. In general, live and let live. I don't have to agree with a person or 100% understand the label they claim. Do you.

I don't really want to open that can of worms about what is and isn't a mental disorder ( Homosexuality has been declassified as such since the 70's tho.. ).
But I think there is a difference between having a good faith discussion about that and with calling people derogatory slurs and making clearly bigoted comments combined with calling Homosexuality and Transgenderism mental disorders.
The context there changes and it's pretty clear where it's coming from.

There's a lot of criticism I could make about Trans people online and in media in particular that I think most Trans people would agree with and criticize themselves ( most people engaging with that aren't even Trans, but ppl trying to win brownie points ).
But there is a difference between that and blatant bigotry.

Imo I think that the term '' mental illness '' is stigmatized and gets moralized about too much, but I also think that people who use the term as has been used here and in the other thread are fully aware of that and are intentionally using it to stigmatize.
If I was to use it in a discussion about this I wouldn't be using it to try and stigmatize and be bigoted towards people but that is clearly the context behind why a lot of people are using it here.

Who cares. Intersectional identity politics is a bane on society. I care about whether you're a good person, not what group you're weaponized into "belonging" to. Just in the same way I dont care what class you are, or what colour your skin is. Pride is just another corporate holiday at this point and I'm honestly surprised people fall for it.
