So, I had a peek at the new outfit. There are pieces of it that might be interesting, if it could have been broken up. Also, I don't care for the color. Hard pass.

Interesting that the hairstyle's default color isn't locked, yet the outfit itself cannot be dyed.
Lyse's outfit is for cosplay, not glamour (even if many players would prefer it for glamour). That's why the NPC sets aren't dyeable - they're intended for cosplay.
YoshiP was actually against it. Because it was such a frequent request of players to be able to try on mogstation items before buying, he ended up pressured by the beancounters to add the feature.
So he did the smart thing and made the inn room bed the only place you can do it. It's a nice out of the way place that won't bother most players since you're only going to be at the inn room bed to either log out (I doubt that many players go to an inn room to log out) or because you actually want to use the Dreamfitting.
If he really was trying to push mogstation sales, he'd do what almost every other game with a cash shop does - flood your screen with a huge cash shop window every time you log in.
Kinda a poor excuse imo, if people want to cosplay they will lol. It's not like making them dyable (or in multiple sets and not a onesie) will make it unable for people to cosplay as NPCs. It just comes across as pure lazy, but to each their own
It's perfect for dancer, too.
Since no one gave you a definitive answer, based on what I've read,I'm curious as to what their process of making dyeable items is like.
If I remember correctly, they make a texture for the undyed version then make textures for each dye color. I would imagine they have some way to streamline the process once they identify which areas are "dyeable".
Would it be easier if they just had to select which areas of a piece of gear is "dyeable" then have the color show up as a filter from a color-picker?FFXIV doesn't actually handle dyeing with duplicate textures to account for each possible dye, the game has an entire... materials system? that determines what colour (and texture) something is. Gear has, depending on the complexity of the design, multiple channels, each with its own settings (like, for example, is this part shiny metal?)
It sounds really versatile, I could see them giving players access to more of this system as a way to improve Glamour? At the very least, multiple dye channels should (theoretically) be possible.
... which brings us to the topic of the thread. Yeah, I think it's kinda awful whenever Glamour gear is undyeablenot to mention sold as one piece, especially one you buy with real money. The whole cosplay angle people are taking is weird by virtue of the fact that being able to dye it would not invalidate that in any way. You want to cosplay Lyse? Just... don't dye it, then!
Glamour without restrictions* is long overdue!
If you think so too, help keep the thread going!

To be fair Yoshi P has said he wanted to keep the store out of the game but actually the players have been asking to be able to preview the items in game and then they implemented it![]()
Since ARR they have never made any NPC attire dyeable ever. I'm sure they have their reasons and you can bank on it they never will make them dyeable. However I do think the hair style should have been sold separately.
