I'm curious as to what their process of making dyeable items is like.
If I remember correctly, they make a texture for the undyed version then make textures for each dye color. I would imagine they have some way to streamline the process once they identify which areas are "dyeable".
Would it be easier if they just had to select which areas of a piece of gear is "dyeable" then have the color show up as a filter from a color-picker?

Hey, you will take my abrasive badgering of your opinion and you will like it. (j/k, but also, I apologize. I just find community creations to be a little more deserving of credit if I find they tend to outdo the main developer in some way, and, at least to me, that often ends up being the case with the mods I see for XIV, even if I don't personally use them or necessarily would like what I see.)

To bring this back to the original topic, considering that there are modes in which dye options have been made available for certain outfits that have otherwise remained undyeable in the base game, I wonder if the decision really is just to preserve the identity of the outfit for the character, or if it's just because they didn't bother to key the option into the materials?

    edit:

Oh, is that the process? That seems rather... intense, for picking a color.

This. It's not even a color issue for me, it's a full attire which is boring. I like to mix-n-match, even if a glam piece is undyeable.

Sorry, I'm not well versed with stuff like this - does that mean they're making one model per color? That's.. terribly inefficient, if so lol.

The OG outfit is probably just a one piece, making it so that we have to suffer the same onesie hell as a result. I just don't understand why they wouldn't make an ounce of an effort.. at least try.. to make it a new outfit alltogther.

Is that why when I logged in for the first time on 6.1 the game shoved a "YOU CAN NOW PREIVEW MOG STATION ITEMS BEFORE BUYING THEM!" pop up in my face.

When it comes to colors, they have the one model but multiple texture files that they replace whenever you use a dye.
There are multiple models but those are for gender and race.

    Can't dye = Won't buy

Shame you can't purchase the hair separately.

Cash shop is handled by another team aren't they? A team whose goal it is to make money with the least amount of work possible. It's a cash grab and they don't feel like doing the work needed to allow the stuff to be dyed that's easy to see. Why take that time whenever people who want this mainly want to "be Lyse" and most won't care that it's not dyeable

From my understanding, there's a separate team that runs the shop itself (like how the forums is run by a separate team from the dev team) but the gear and models are made by the dev team.
