I think it's a bit wrong to call it a disadvantage. Call it unfair if you want but it's not exactly making your gameplay any worse off than ours.
So if we just look at the sets that are really just for one gender, we have 9 sets for males and 14 sets for females. I am afraid this could be some kind of proof for disadvantage. :/
You play a female, right? Maybe it's hard to understand for you. Before I played a Viera, for example, I could never really understand how big the issue with the helmets really is.
I just wish that SE would be more fair. They should add items for both genders. That's all. : )
Who the hell plays males in an MMO?
When I was a girl for a short time, I was surprised how different and good so many items suddenly looked. xD For example the Nier chestpieces or the neo-ishgard lv 80 sets. So well designed for girls. The male variants are compared most of the time kinda boring. When you speak purely about outfits, yeah. I guess I just didn't look hard enough... but a couple weeks ago when I was a male Miqo'te for a bit, none of the things I had stored in the dresser worked very well. Not to mention the fact that you can't swap out Mogstation items for their gender parallel as you can do for seasonal items. I probably didn't farm enough... but most of the things in my Dresser are level 1 glamour items and Job sets. It feels different from female where many items look quite nice and I can consider grabbing them with a Greed roll.
Don't get me started on the healer sets.
But I want to stay a male char. No matter how much SE forgets about them. As a male Viera it's double hard. No headpieces and less well designed pieces and less pieces in generell. :') But at least the male Viera look well designed in generell. So, who needs clothes!? Let's be naked or whatever. xD
I hope SE could be more fair. We will see what future brings.
Thank you all for your responses and I wish you all a nice day. : 3
It's not so much about quantity, but quality imo
Male characters got:
- 1 unique Aymeric outfit
- 1 unique Thancred outfit
- 1 unique Gosetsu outfit
- 1 unique Snow outfit
- 1 unique Tidus outfit
- 1 unique Omega M onesie
- 1 unique Cid onesie
- 2 unique Alphy onesies
- 1 reused model Papalymo outfit
- 1 reused model Thancred outfit
- 1 reused model Urianger outfit
- 1 reused model* Hien outfit
- 1 reused model* Hildy outfit
* they're edited versions so they're "unique" but still using an already existing outfit as base, so take it as you will
total outfits: 14
unique outfits: 9
onesies: 4
reused models: 5
meanwhile, females get:
total outfits: 14
- 2 unique Y'shtola outfits
- 1 unique Ryne outfit
- 1 unique Alma outfit
- 1 unique Lyse outfit
- 1 unique Krile outfit
- 1 unique Edda outfit
- 1 unique Lightning outfit
- 1 unique Yuna outfit
- 1 unique Omega F onesie
- 1 unique Minfilia onesie
- 1 reused model Yda onesie
- 1 Y'shtola outfit ...that's neither a onesie nor a unique model/color, no idea why it's even in the store?
- and now a second unique Lyse outfit
unique outfits: 12
onesies: 3
reused models: 2
The amount of outfits is balanced, but clearly female characters are favored when designing them. Even right now, ingame, G'raha is the only male character with a customized outfit - even Alphy is just wearing the Sage job gear while Alisaie got a completely new set that will likely be in the store before christmas, so you can add that one up to the list.
*edit* I remembered neither of Alphy's outfits are genderlocked, so....either substract 2 from the male list, or add 2 to the female list, either way it only makes things worse lol
WHM is 100% designed with only female characters in mind, you can't change my mind, there's no way you can call that "quinceañera nun" dress unisex.

Depends on who views the designs. Some are better and some not. Imo nearly all of the tank sets look better on male and healer sets on female.
