Wait they're leaving it off because of Ukraine? Do Ukrainians even make up 1% of the player base? How does a war in the eastern bloc effect jack shit over here?above poster is off the goop guess what thats how it already has been so deal with it! owned
anyway autodemo NEEDS to be turned on yesterday. it's going to be at some ill-defined moment anyway -- ostensibly its off "for the war" in ukraine, but seriously, when can you possibly turn it back on after such a solemn decision? when there's a ceasefire? when the situation has levelled out to a slow-moving frontline? when the donbas belongs to country A or country B? it was a mistake to get caught up with international issues like that... a natural disaster is one thing, because the situation has already gotten as bad as it'll get, and is in a state of repair. but a political situation truly never gets better, and can always get worse. imo they would be wise to just announce it's coming back on with 6.2 and sidestep the entire magpie they walked into.

Ok and you re-add it and now it's all active players... There are more active players on a server than there is housing. You would move around housing to those constantly playing sure but it won't free any new housing up the number is still the same.

Mom says it's my turn to play house! The auto-demolition should have never been stopped. I had several houses demolished during the breaks and it's insane for how long was the ownership kept even when not playing for months. The supply is low, the inactive plots have to be recycled as quickly as possible so that new owners get their turn with them.
I don't really care where your "over here" is, I just know that I don't want to live there if this horrific attitude is shared by others living there. Yes, Ukrainians do play the game and yes, some of them are having to pause their lives, that once were just like your comfortable life, to defend themselves and their loved ones. They've lost so much and yet you want to take their in-game house too?
It's not just Ukraine being disrupted. There are other events around the world disrupting player lives, including a major earthquake in Japan back in March.
This is something that SE regularly does when there are major disasters or other events disrupting large regions. Since players aren't restricted to choosing worlds based on their geographic regions, demolition suspension tends to end up affecting all data centers though sometimes SE will limit it to just one region.

♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!

Even unsubbed, all you have to do is log in once every 45 days, take about 5 steps and enter the house. It takes less than 5 minutes, less time than it took you to read this thread and post. If someone can’t even be bothered by that minimal and simple thing to do, it means the interest level is very low and I don’t see why they should keep the house instead of seeing it go to an active player.
Even if the supply is not sufficient, without auto demolition, there would probably not have been any housing market at all between the releases of Kugane and Empyreum. The inactive server population is several times that of the active server population. Auto demolition might not add many houses at a time but it is better than nothing. That being said, SE should add more wards and review the allocation of fc vs private housing too. Atm, the FC wards in Empyreum are practically empty and it just encourages people to leave genuine FCs and form shell FCs.

Agreed. The lottery is already becoming mundane after two cycles because houses are not being auto-demolished. What's the point of having houses auto-demolish if the functionality is turned off most of the year?
As others have said, if players feel like it is annoying to keep a sub up to retain their in-game house, there is something fundamentally broken with Housing in FFXIV. Many players are simply not visiting their houses unless they need to keep them from being demolished. I personally have given up 2 mediums when I got tired of visiting them, but I am the exception amongst my in-game friends.
Players feel bad for not having a house.
Players feel bad for keeping a house.
Video games are for having fun, right? A game feature should not make this many players feel bad.

Auto Demo as it is isn't unlike plot relocation. It doesn't really...*change* the supply and demand, it just gives losing people a reroll on a different plot. And it's brutally punishing to anyone that wins a plot, and has life happen. it's even *worse* for a tenant of a personal house who can enter and leave all they want, but as I understand it...they don't reset the counter.
Honestly if auto demo were reimplemented it needs to be done differently. Tenants and owners should reset the counter, the grace period should be longer--closer to 3 or even 6 months, but on the same token...none of this grandfathered nonsense. If an FC or personal house isn't seeing *any* use from any of its caretakers, it should open up. But it needs to be done in a way that it's only really punishing idlers or people ultimately done with the game--that way you don't have people after a month going BACK into the housing pool, and competing with everyone else once again. Just how many times have we heard THAT story?
2 weeks for private and 1 month for FC? Shouldn't that be backwards? If a FC house doesn't have one person enter the house in a month, that seems far more likely "abandoned" than the individual who took a couple weeks off.
