Auto-demolition needs to be re-enabled immediately.

Housing auto-demolition should be re-enabled immediately. The lottery system will become inoperative within a few cycles if it is not. Patch 6.11a disabled the afk logout, so by the developers' own measures the server queues are stable.

Auto-demo was left off far too long during the pandemic until it became very apparent that it was going to be a long-term issue that the world at large is still dealing with. The "current world situation" as the NA team put it, is showing no signs that it will be any different, tragic as that is.

Leaving auto-demo off for nebulous lengths of time destroys all the hard work that has been put into overhauling the housing system.

Edit: I read a proposal on the Japanese side of the forum that demolition be selectively re-enabled for all datacenters except Europe. If technically possible this could be a very useful compromise.

They should never disable it more than a month. It should be lowered to 2 weeks not entering your place it gets auto demolition for private housing and 1 month for FC housing.

Why would you give FC housing a bigger grace period than personal when FC housing already gets the benefit of any FC member being able to reset the timer by entering the house while for personal housing it has to be the owner of the plot and not tenants? Like what is your justification in this being a good idea? If no one in a free company enters a house long enough for it to be under threat of demo they really aren't using the house enough to warrant being allowed a longer grace period.

2 weeks for private and 1 month for FC? Shouldn't that be backwards? If a FC house doesn't have one person enter the house in a month, that seems far more likely "abandoned" than the individual who took a couple weeks off.

Glad it is off personally, ofc that is because I have a house.
But being forced to keep a sub up for my house can get annoying when I am taking a break from the game.

Even unsubbed, all you have to do is log in once every 45 days, take about 5 steps and enter the house. It takes less than 5 minutes, less time than it took you to read this thread and post. If someone can’t even be bothered by that minimal and simple thing to do, it means the interest level is very low and I don’t see why they should keep the house instead of seeing it go to an active player.

Even if the supply is not sufficient, without auto demolition, there would probably not have been any housing market at all between the releases of Kugane and Empyreum. The inactive server population is several times that of the active server population. Auto demolition might not add many houses at a time but it is better than nothing. That being said, SE should add more wards and review the allocation of fc vs private housing too. Atm, the FC wards in Empyreum are practically empty and it just encourages people to leave genuine FCs and form shell FCs.

Agreed. The lottery is already becoming mundane after two cycles because houses are not being auto-demolished. What's the point of having houses auto-demolish if the functionality is turned off most of the year?

As others have said, if players feel like it is annoying to keep a sub up to retain their in-game house, there is something fundamentally broken with Housing in FFXIV. Many players are simply not visiting their houses unless they need to keep them from being demolished. I personally have given up 2 mediums when I got tired of visiting them, but I am the exception amongst my in-game friends.

Players feel bad for not having a house.

Video games are for having fun, right? A game feature should not make this many players feel bad.

Wow. Seriously, just wow. This is almost sort of like the argument that if you tax the hell out of the rich, there will magically be enough money to give every citizen a comfy life. Include in this the desire for taking away the grandfathered plots of those who, by the rules, had managed to get multiple plots in the early days of this game. What do all of these things have in common? The fact that the resources you free up by doing these things, won't amount to much more than a drop of water added to a lake. The demand for housing is VASTLY greater than the plots that you would free up by turning demolition back on again. Sorry, but cannibalizing others is not going to solve this problem.
