That's the point. To decrease the demand for single player houses and motivating players to share the houses to cut down the cost. The drawback would make houses more available.

Infact, adding taxes would probably make them be on more and hoard more gil, just to keep those houses as an even bigger symbol of pride.
That's just bonus of taxes. Having a FC house and personal house is in a limited supply situation also hoarding. (I admit being in such position before due to Fc members giving up on the game).

The main reason why the Party Finder is not working for the harder content and so many groups disband after few wipes is caused by the players who ignore the comments.

Getting to the phase XYZ once does not mean you are ready to join parties to do XYZ.

Parties should spend most of the time doing the phase that is written in the comment not trying to get there.

This is factually untrue. On so many levels.

Why? Because every time FCs were given advantages in housing, hardly anyone used it. Yet when FCs lost that advantage, people rose up to complain that they lost it despite not using it when offered. FC-Housing, despite being deemed "proper" housing because of the workshop / airship systems isn't enough anymore. People want their own houses far more than putting in time and effort to get an FC house for an FC that may not last 'till next week.

The belief of "100-player FCs" is becoming less and less common. Now, you're lucky to find an FC with double-digit members that aren't all just alts of the owner. Even rarer are FCs that get along and aren't filled with drama over literally anything, from how one Roleplays to someone doing .002 DPS too little.

(yes those are exaggerations but you get the point.)

Adding taxes would not fix housing. It would ruin it further.

When single player housing and single player free companies have no negatives it is hard to compete with anti-social behavior and need for personal ownership. Taxes would provide some motivation. It doesn't have to be 20 players in a free company. 2 players sharing a house would be still more than 1 making the housing situation better.

    Or.

And bear with me here, because I know this is a bit 'out there'.

Square Enix could make more houses available.

SE is adding houses, more wards, more districts, but it's never enough. Adding motivation for players to share houses could be easier for them. In a way the introduction of personal single player houses create the issue in the first place so taking a small step back like the house tax could improve the situation.

This solution is like battling a forest fire by adding more forest.
