I suspect that the housing thing comes from an interview last year (Island Sanctuary part starts at about 27 minutes). Which talks about being able to place buildings as part of the customisation process. Which has been taken to mean instanced housing. But I also think it'll be closer to the Mog Garden and buildings be more like the helper NPC you could hire for it

It will 100% not be a replacement to custom housing. There might be stuff like little prefabricated houses, barns, silos, fencing, etc you can place. But they have said before to temper your expectations as to what all it includes. And yet people keep getting their hopes up way too high.

People heard "private island" and assumed instanced housing. There was also a question asked by a streamer, I believe Meoni, and Yoshi answered in the vein of: there will be placable buildings or something like that. So the community exploded and went off on the: "We're finally getting instanced housing" train.

However, it was also stated to lower our expectations significantly because it's not going to be instanced housing...or housing at all the way we know now. I've always gotten a Stardew Valley vibe from it from that point forward, like our own "farm".

Whoever thinks it's going to be like the housing we have now definitely needs to relax because it's not going to be that. We wouldn't have been told to damper our expectations months in advance if it was going to be a copy of the housing system we have in place already.

The whole "is a housing system" is an assumption made by the community only. Devs never said anything about being housing. then will come the whining and complains because there is not a house, despite never say such thing. Well, like always in this forum.

Well they could always come out and just tell us what it's supposed to be instead of telling us occasionally what it's not supposed to be.

I've seen quite a few people, including streamers, claim it'll be instancced housing with nothing more than wishful thinking. Granted, I've also seen streamers talk like IS were going to come out in 6.0, or 6.1, when the real date before the last LL was "at some point in the 6.x series"

The last LL did mention there'll be some customization, specifically placeable buildings, though I'm thinking it'll still be severely limited like you can only choose which buildings out of a limited pool and where to place them.

Which isnt strange because the current housing system is quite bad, yet appartments on that are already a sort of instanced housing. And this would be an ideal way to make a full house into an instanced state like an appartment. It would almost seem like a waste of resources not to do that. Not everyone needs the neighbors you have in wards, and this therefor can save on a lot of resources. Prefabricated houses on that simply arent worth it, people want to make things personal! And sure, maybe you can build like 6 structures and 1 of them is effectively the house (with an internal area you can decorate). But its that detailing that matters to a lot of people.

But yes, i can also imagine that they actualy want to focus on other parts and maybe for now simply will not have this instanced indoor area that you can decorate yourself. Maybe this is just the test to see how well instanced 'housing' works by simply not giving the same freedom, but similar loads (as this can now simply be adjusted without disrupting housing).

In the end it just depends on the gil cost on what is a fair thing to do. When the price goes above 10m, i definitely would expect at least a small size house in that island that i can decorate. With a 1m cost, i wouldnt expect that at all. And maybe later on they just give the option to customize your house on that island?

Im currently not hyped about this at all (and also not against it either if it doesnt involve housing). I will wait until they show something concrete before that. Maybe there are other advantages here already that will do fine.
