I don't generally find personal opinions offensive so much as I do certain behaviors. This is less a discussion around 'free speech' than it is 'manners'.

I do enjoy seeing an exchange of ideas that arises from differing viewpoints. The problem that I see is that people tend to stake their pride in these debates, so when they feel like they're losing they start throwing out abusive language at you, which is unfortunate. And on the more worrying side of the spectrum, we see issues around targeted harassment and brigading which are less obvious to pin down, but is still discouraging for people who want to post in here. A bit of forums PvP is fine, but it needs to be a good clean fight!

Crazy thought here, but their use to be a people who had this thing called free speech, I know it's wild I mean who was there to censor them when they said something I didn't like, but anyways these barbarians use to say whatever they wanted as long as they weren't death threats.

I can't speak for others but I'm sure glad that free speech nonsense is on its way out, I mean it's worse then murder or physical abuse or people starving when someone sais something I think should be banned, sure glad things are different now, we're heading towards a better world my friend, one barbarian silenced at a time.

Particularly that last line - fantasising about murdering people and flinging insults all over differences in opinion towards a fictional story? I'd say that's a more obvious, glaring problem than someone linking public statements.

The irony. The person you're responding to is one of the first people I blocked for frequently degenerating into personal insults and wishes of harm upon others for disagreeing about the story on the lore forums. It's laughable to see them here trying to feign any sort of moral high ground.

I'll be honest, I have mixed feelings about this. I don't think folks should be targeted for their political views on their off-account, but I think that if they themselves make volatile comments on social media, it can very easily cause alarm to the ethics of the company itself as to "how could you hire someone like this?" One example is a previous game I played, they hired someone to write a couple of their books. People said the books were "meh" in quality, so it didn't get much attention... Until people looked at her twitter. She was a Leukophobic Misandrist. People looked at her, then they looked at the game company.

I looked at those two twitter accounts that were linked... those poor women, totally locked down and scared off of the internet by the Theodric Red Ribbon Army of Haters (which I am apparently now a member of)! ... Or not, because they just seem to be blissfully unaware and tweeting like normal. Someone fetch them the blankets and hot cocoa and award them a purple heart!

I do believe there is some merit to concern about personal views entering the game itself. If you proudly emblazon your workplace on your supposedly personal public social media accounts where you take a dump on certain segments of the fanbase and post your opinions on controversial subjects, it shows you can't fully seperate your personal life from your professional life. Especially when you are essentially a gatekeeper between languages, who is in charge of conveying ideas from one segment of the population to another.

Maybe that's just me though... I don't have any social media accounts aside from here, and do not tend to touch those places with a ten foot long stick aside from fanart.
