Me thinks you dont do savage if your opening statement is literally "15 minutes of mechanics." Most savage fights are not that long. But maybe thats just hyperbole for effect.Expecting 8 people to perform 15 minutes of mechanics without losing DPS, without a single death and all this while poorly communicating is the crux of everything that makes Savage raiding a horrible experience, the icing on that inedible cake is enrage which enforces this mechanic through fake difficulty and removes any flexibility or room for error.
It's no wonder all the toxicity in FFXIV comes from the savage raiding community, which is in turn why we have all these parsers controversies which are taking up the devs focus. This problem could easily be fixed by offering a little wiggle room for mistakes and removing the pointless enrage function but I guess that's not happening any time soon.
Now I'll sit back and wait for all the accusations of "trolling" or me not "gitting gud" to spew forth like the contents of an overflowing toilet.
Unless youre looking for world first week 1 clears for the tier, you can definitely screw up some mechanics, have deaths, and not be the most proficient player ever and clear the savage fights. The idea that savage is some super unforgiving mess isnt true in the slightest. Yes there are some mechanics that will outright kill your raid, but it's not like theyre having you solve a physics equation while cooking a souffle while reciting War and Peace word for word in reverse. It usually boils down to literally "stand here" or "Dont stack these things". If the people in your group understood the mechanics, then that isnt going to be your problem typically.
Enrage, btw, isnt a fake difficulty. It's there to make sure youre not taking your sweet time and brute forcing your way through an encounter by just outliving all the mechanics. You have a set period of time to beat the fight, and to do that, you need to be not only doing ok enough dps, but also not dying every 5 seconds.
While I agree there is some level of toxicity in Savage, I tend to find it crops up a lot more in pug groups than actual statics, and tends to crop up with impatient players who dont recognize or refuse to recognize they screwed up a mechanic that killed them or the raid. The simple truth is anyone can do these fights if they practice their class, have patience, and study the fights. They can be challanging, but theyre not this terribly designed mess.
Oh and before the "Well you need dps meteres to know if youre doing good", no you dont. You have to have a basic understanding that using your skills in the correct and more optimal order will increase your overall damage. Spamming Medica 2 is a bad way to heal. Doing 1,2,3 for your damage combo and not worrying about positionals, CDs, or other factors which optimizes your class is a bad way to do damage. You dont need to be operating on this mentality that "Oh if Im off by a half second, or dont have the perfectly melded gear, my DPS wont be enough." You can screw up and still recover. You may not get a great parse if thats what youre aiming for, but that should always secondary to completing a fight.

The first time Jamie made one of these posts(content is too hard and no crystal PF has ever cleared _____, or something along those lines) someone went to take a peak and see if any help could be offered. You know, offer to do a log analysis, some tips for class improvement, that sort of thing. At the time Jamie was a 0-damage healer, who was somehow still being out-healed by their cohealer. All signs are that they have improved a small amount since then, but it seems the attitude is still the same.

Their description of how a 'savage fight is' just really makes me think that theyre not understanding the fundamental issues theyre encountering in their own experiences and are instead placing blame on the devs and assuming the fights are just busted.
And this is why I found a static for savage prog instead of relying on the PF lol. I had a PF once for an EX fight where we had a BLM that only used ice. I always thought ice mages were a meme until then....I kinda hoped he was just trolling the group, but after the third pull I was like "ya I'm out."The first time Jamie made one of these posts(content is too hard and no crystal PF has ever cleared _____, or something along those lines) someone went to take a peak and see if any help could be offered. Savage is good and fine.
P3s sucks hard and I hope who designed it stubs their toe.

they probably accidentally hit their dot once or twice. also, i’ve noticed 0 dps healers typically have no idea how to utilize their kit, so they end up healing less than those who dps. probably all that physick spamming.

Multi-phase fights (E12S, P4S, etc.) tend to have an overall 15 minute-ish timer if you count both phases as one fight; for instance P4S phase 1 is ~7 minutes for enrage, P4S phase 2 is ~8 minutes.
That said, we only get at most one checkpointed multi-phase fight per tier, and not even that every tier, so... yes, I would agree with you that 10 minutes is the more commonly encountered enrage timer.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer
