Public Discussion: Community Feedback - Is it being heard?

It's why I've tried to make titles more direct and to the point. That way the topic can be discussed more in-detail. Honestly, I've had the recent idea of merely a monthly Forum General Discussion Thread so they can look through it all and talk about things that they want in the game, or just discuss certain things that are either flooded or not regarded in other threads. It'd also be a way to compile feedback.

That's a pretty good idea.

I personally am of the idea that megathreads are the way to go - from the mindset of someone who used to moderate a forum it's just *so much easier* to compile complaints and compliments into one big thread based on topic, rather than sift through dozens of smaller threads that end up devolving into mud-slinging matches. It also is a bit more of an accurate read on community agreement - if you've noticed typically the threads that have more engagement with more people tend to have the most diverse opinions on any one topic. For example, I have a gut feeling that male viera would've turned out wayyy differently if, rather than that *huge* mViera thread, we'd had dozens of scattered threads, people starting multiple threads "what if male viera looked like X" "what if male viera looked like Y" "male viera succ already and theyre not even in game" etc etc...

Feedback being Heard doesn't always mean they'll agree with it or implement everything the community asks for. Nor does them hearing you mean they have to do everything you say. Nor is it possible to actually adhere to every community whim when one group wants one thing and another wants the opposite.

We are. In fact, it has been proven that we are, it's just your choice to believe that we are not and your strange crusade to "deflate" those who don't agree with you.

It'd be like having a "Free Wine Tasting Day" and during it holding a "Do people enjoy wine?" survey.

No, this is more akin to having a "Buy our new wine!" promotion, where the wine provided was a "blend" which came from a spit bucket, and people decided to complain after they had a taste. After complaints had reached a certain threshold, they basically said "call our hotline!"
And here we are.

Meanwhile, many of us have been here before the fallout, which neither scenario really takes into account, but at least we had story time to help us feel better.

Those were inherited from the DPS class Arcanist, a problem they obviously weren't happy with so they decided to stop letting it inherit from Arcanist.

A better example would be White Mage in Stormblood, which had 3 DoTs and that was about the busiest it ever got. It's evident that how busy both of them were in Stormblood was seen as a problem by SE and addressed in Shadowbringers like a lot of other issues were.

Just because a lot of people on the forums liked how busy they were doesn't mean that everyone who plays the game liked it and there can be regional differences as well. Even if this is something that SE didn't listen to, it doesn't change all the other things that they did listen to over the years.

It doesnt matter if it was inherited though. The healer job sch still had access to them and made it a part of their gameplay and many players found it engaging. The fact is though, theyve gotten feedback since shb about the state of healers and they only just recently addressed it and their answer was "go play ultimate if you want your role to be engaging." That isnt professional whatsoever. You do not basiucally tell your players to f off when theyve been expressing concerns over something for 4+ years.

What, this thread? This thread, whose purpose is to ask the community if they believe feedback is being heard, which was just opened a little over 24 hours ago, doesn't have enough views and like counts or replies or something?
Ok, sure.
Meanwhile we have threads which have exploded into more replies, more views, more likes on various posts within said threads, some which have been active for a much longer time, and some that have exploded into much more in much less time, and yet we don't get much, if anything, from the development team about them.
Now, what this has to do with what I said, I don't know, but, again, ok, sure. I'm glad you came in here to let us know that, and, well, keep the counts going. Kudos if you count all of that personally.

This stance is usually accepted in society as "insulting". So it's no wonder people, me included, are rather upset.

I clarified "listening" vs. "complying" in my referenced post, so hopefully it conveys what I intended to say. They may very well understand and even empathize with what some (or even many vocal) players want, but that doesn't mean they are going to comply with those requests, and the non-compliance isn't necessarily malicious. For example, they may feel that in spite of player concerns in one area there is an overriding rationale for doing something different, or they may consider the players' suggestion or demand to be infeasible for various reasons such as time/effort/staffing requirements or server resources.

While I do know they have listened but also implemented players suggestion in the past, I also feel success can lead to arrogance. Perhaps it's not arrogance but ignorance though. When healers say they want to DPS, it's more along the lines they are bored and want to do something else than cast Heal 1 and Heal 2.

If they would just communicate with the players either with direct contact or through survey, it would mean they could get the heart of many issues. Instead we get half arse attempts at trying to make players happy and ends up making matters worse.

My point was, you are saying that the forums are enough of a measure for them to take feedback.

The first post on the healers need an overhaul thread has 100 likes... And 35k views.

If you are going to use baseless metrics like posts and activity then surely the like to view ratio is just as acceptable a metric on how much the community agrees on a topic.
