I do not believe this thread was intended as a discriminatory post.
It seems to have come from a place of misunderstand and questioning just how safe the game is for LTGBQIA+ individuals. Though I may be an optimist?
I looked through the thread, and although I don't see descriminatory material, I do see people that passionately disagree with one another.
I wont mention my particular stance on #metoo
#Mepoo is making fun of Amber Heard because she is a spokerperson and one of the highest profile people who talks about and againt abuse when the entire time she's been the one absuing her ex husband and ex partners.
Also because people refer this this awful person as Amber Turd so it's just a meme about how terrible and disgusting she is.

I think it entirely depends on the individual in question.
As somebody who tend to not fit neither the LGBTQ & the non-LGBTQ faction, it can be daunting when you're stepping into zones where you're uncertain of your own comfort & safety. To people who do not experience the privileged existence, they are more susceptible to these insecurities & thus it is important for them to have this secured in some way to function properly. To some, they may not even need to think about it nor had it ever crossed their minds because it's there by default. In the end this is my stance: "It's a nice thing to know but personally at this point, I do not really need it. For now. If you need it, by all means, I encourage you to go for it."
Almost everybody I know in this game uses their character names as a handle, and I do not know (nor care to know if they are not close friends) anything IRL related about them, therefore it is natural for me to refer to them by their character gender and do not worry about any of this whatsoever.
I was in a FC that was focused on those who were LGBTQ. Within the forest few months, the leaders had fights within themselves and Gayorzea that went from in game to out of game in Discord and real life stalking.Lol he did come and start reporting posts.
Back on topic. As people have said, usually the ones who do advertise as this are usually the opposite of what they claim, have drama, or have other issues.
Perhaps people advertising as this should think about why people avoid it then work on making it the safe space they claim it to be.
I have seen more drama in LGBTQ guilds than non labeled FCs
Does that mean LGBTQ players shouldn’t have a safe space to play? No. But just understand those FCs can be toxic and harmful to turn people away and see them in a bad light
Why not just not label as such and have a “Respect everyone and don’t be a d*ck” rule instead?
While it's not a fullproof marker of a group being non-bigoted and as people have said plenty of these groups have their own issues and often intra-community issues, it's usually a good sign for me and enough to give a group a second glance and see if it's a good fit.
Both myself and my best friend are older people and came to FFXIV from playing WoW in our teens. I won't go into specifics but as a teenager even on sites known for being populated by a large LGBT+ community we both experienced a lot of verbal harrassment and threats of assault and often moderators, if they cared at all and were not bigoted themselves, did nothing. FFXIV and the general populace of gaming now are night and day from what things were like 10 years ago but my experiences have taught me to be cautious and a group saying "lgbt+ friendly" is like a sign to me that an off hand comment about a boyfriend isn't going to result in someone suddenly messaging me they are going to kill me.
I think a lot of people are either to young to remember how is was or are not LGBT+ and never had to think about it.
