you mean the Fake "rumor" that its called "final fantasy" becasue it was "their final game"???? you know, the rumor that is known to be false? The rumor that ignores the fact they wanted to just call it ANYTHING that would abreviated to FF? The ignored fact they wanted it to be called Fighting fantasy till they realized there was a Board game of that name that woudl cause legal problems? and that any word with F would have worked honestly?
Yes. I firmly believe something was lost when they went from squaresoft to square enix. Square enix titles relating to final fantasy don't "feel" very final fantasy to me in the same way the squaresoft titles did. XIV is the only FF I've actually enjoyed since FFX.
Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
Squaresoft made ff8 tho, the best ff game - so who knows!![]()
I guess, this happens to literary every game company.
Steve Jobs gave a possible explanation for it:

To be fair, VII was groundbreaking for its time. It's just that, now it and its legacy has been milked to oblivion because Square-Enix knows people want to ingest anything that has to do with that universe.
Absolutely. Squaresoft did release some bad games, but the Final Fantasy series really hit the nail on the head. It went straight downhill from the start with X-2, which despite having some good points was a joke of a game in my opinion. I enjoyed 7, 8, 9 and 10 a lot. I liked that each was a different experience and found them all to be well made in their own way. I don't feel 7 was overhyped, I think the original was an extremely enjoyable game and deserves the popularity. I strongly disliked that Enix utilized that popularity to milk that game to death though.
All that said, I don't think Enix is an evil corporation that took over poor Squaresoft and ruined their work. Similar to Activision and Blizzard you have to remember the original company made the decision to merge, they weren't forced. The developers who worked on the game don't run the company, those in charge of both Squaresoft and Blizzard make the decision to cash in on their popularity and sell their souls. If anyone ruined Squaresoft, it's Squaresoft.
Sure, FF 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were some of the best games ever made. Along with a few more like Chrono Trigger and Seken Denetsu 3.
Once they made FF7 it all went to hell, IMO, and they never made anything decent that wasn't FF9, an MMO or a remake in the 25 years since.
Yeah, that's very true. I was there when it happened. Haha
